SALES FIGHTS BRUBAKER FOR OPBF WELTERWEIGHT TITLE IN AUSTRALIA APRIL 8 By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Mon, 03 Apr 2017 DAVAO CITY -- Former World Boxing Federation (WBF) International flyweight champion Mark Sales of Davao City is challenging the undisputed Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) welterweight champion Jack ?The Ripper? Brubaker of Australia on April 8 at the Doltone House in Sylvania Waters, New South Wales of Australia. The 35-year old Sales has won two of his last three fights both by knockouts. Sales first knocked out Junard Postrano in the 3rd round then stopped Joselito Campana via a 4th round TKO last January 21 in Mindoro Occidental. Sales previously settled a split draw with Japanese Ryuji Ikeda last October 9 in Hiroshima, Japan. Brubaker, on the other hand, previously stopped Chatri Charoensin by a 2nd round knockout last December 12 at the Southern Cross Group Stadium in Woolooware, New South Wales. The 25-year old Aussie successfully made his last title defense by a split decision on Japanese challenger Suyon Takayama last July 25 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Brubaker survived a knockdown in the 11th round to escape by a split decision and improved his record to 12-1-1 win-loss-draw with 6 knockouts. Judges Les Fear (116-111) and Robert Bridges (115-112) both scored it for Brubaker while Japanese judge Kazutoshi Yoshida (113-115) gave it to the challenger. Brubaker won the vacant OPBF welterweight title via a 4th round knockout on Xing Xin Yang on August 19, 2015 at the Hisense Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Brubaker first downed twice Xing in the opening round before stopping the Chinese in 2:59 of the 4th round. Brubaker then retained his crown in his first title defense via a 6th round technical knockout win against Paddy Murphy last March 12, 2016 at the Netball Central, Olympic Park in Sydney. The Brubaker-Sales 12-round championship is promoted by John Ioannou of JNI Promotions with Chris Carmen of Big Ticket Events Pty Ltd as the matchmaker.
