RACHMAN TO SUE PROMOTER; READY TO FACE CONDES IN REMATCH By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sat, 14 Jul 2007 Dethroned IBF miniflyweight kingpin Muhammad Rachman is not about to let pass his bad experience prior to facing Filipino Florante 'The Little Pacquiao' Condes, as he now plans to hail to court Indonesian promoter Albert Papilaya for the latter's failure to deliver on his promises. According to top Jakarta boxing writer Jeffrey Pamungkas, Rachman is now "preparing legal materials to sue Albert Papilaya for his unprofessional manners." It can be recalled that Papilaya was the original promoter for the Rachman-Condes fight, but was eventually replaced by the 28-year-old promoter Ndondo Sugiarto after Papilaya could not deliver on his financial obligations. Papilaya's failure to deliver on his financial promises is being blamed as one of the reasons for Rachman's loss, as he could not pay the kind of quality sparring partners he needed in Blitar City for his preparation for Condes. Rachman, according to Pamungkas, plans to return to the gym a week from now. "I just talked to Martinez dos Santos (Rachman's manager). He said that he keeps in touch with Aljoe Jaro for the rematch. He said if the rematch is in Jakarta it will be much better for Rachman, but he will fight anywhere, including Manila or the US in Pacquiao-Barrera undercard in October. But please contact Ndondo Sugiarto, not to any other person. He's the only one could be trusted by Rachman and dos Santos," said Pamungkas. Sugiarto is the son of the late Herry 'Aseng' Sugiarto, the highly-respected promoter from Indonesia who succumbed to heart problems following a liposuction operations a few years ago. Ndondo Sugiarto is credited for successfully staging the July 7 event, despite initial problems caused by Albert Papilaya. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Salven L. Lagumbay. |
