NBA -- Knicks overpower Bucks, 100-88
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Tue, 12 Jan 2016
CHICAGO - Before a thick crowd of 19,812 fans at the fabulous Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, the New York Knicks showed the might that belied their losing record nearly halfway through the 2015-16 NBA season.
Carmelo Anthony, an 8-time All-Star and the 2013 scoring champion, flirted with a triple-double -- 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists --- to lead a torrid Knicks offense that overwhelmed the Milwaukee Bucks, 100-88.
Five other Knicks scored in double figures with rookie Kristaps Porzingis finishing with 15 points and six rebounds. Center Robin Lopez, who left Portland for the Big Apple last summer, had 13 points and nine boards while Arron Afflalo chipped in 11. Lane Thomas contributed 13 off the bench.
After settling with a 24-24 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Knicks outscored Milwaukee 58-36 in the second and third quarters. They led by as many as 22 points and shot 46.4 percent from the field (39-of-84).
Despite their overall record of 19-20, the Knicks are playing beautiful basketball, winning three of their last four assignments.
"I think everybody's trusting each other more. That's the key," veteran Knicks point guard Jose Calderon told the New York Times.
Milwaukee, meanwhile, continues to struggle. After last season's playoffs run, the Bucks are a disappointing 15-24, 13th place in the Eastern Conference and 5.5 games behind for the 8th and last playoffs berth.
Greg Monroe led Milwaukee' losing effort with 28 points and 10 rebounds while Khris Middleton swished 20. Jabari Parker accounted for 14 points and six rebounds. (HDS)
