BREAKING NEWS: CONCEPCION BATTLES ELIZONDO IN MORALES HEADLINER!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 28 Jun 2007
WBC Youth superbantam champ Bernabe Concepcion is set to return to action on August 4 against Gabriel Elizondo for the vacant NABF superbantam crown at the All State Arena in Chicago, Il, USA.
The Concepcion-Elizondo war will be on the undercard of the Erik Morales-David Diaz tiff for the WBC lightweight crown.
The co-main event features WBO light welterweight king Ricardo Torres defending his title against Kendall Holt.
Bernabe Concepcion's manager Aljoe Jaro, who is in the thick of preparation for his other ward Florante Condes' IBF title crack, confirmed today that indeed, Concepcion will be seeing action on the August 4 card.
Concepcion (21-1-1, 11 KO's) had previously won the WBC Youth crown by defeating Mexican Joksan Hernandez late last year at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
In his first title defense last April 14, Concepcion outpointed Benjamin Flores at the Alamodome in Texas underneath the Manny Pacquiao-Jorge Solis bout.
The 27-year-old Elizondo (22-2, 10 KO's) had previously beaten Filipino-American Glenn Donaire way back in 2001.
He absorbed his first loss with a second-round TKO at the hands of Jhonny Gonzalez, who is now the reigning WBO bantamweight champion. Elizondo suffered his second loss on November 10 last year when he was outpointed by Jose Navarro.
