Kenia Enriquez Closes Off Camp
PhilBoxing.com Tue, 25 Aug 2015

Former flyweight world champion Kenia Enriquez (13-1, 6KO) of Tijuana, Mexico, finished camp strong this past Monday with an intense work out under the watchful eye of trainer and father Gustavo Enriquez. The twenty-one year old Kenia comes back to the ring after nearly a six month hiatus. Enriquez will be facing the tough Lorena ?Ratoncita? Arias (3-7) of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in a junior flyweight six rounder. The bout is part of the Borizteca fight card presented at the Mezzanine Hall in Tijuana, Mexico, this Friday, August 28th.
?This past Saturday we did our last day of sparring and today did the last of the hard days,? Enriquez explained. ?The rest of the week it will just be about dropping the last couple of pounds and maintaining the weight.
Enriquez will be back in the 108-pound division since September of last year when she defeated Mayela Perez via a unanimous decision in San Diego, California. Prior to that Enriquez captured the NABF junior flyweight title with a seventh round stoppage of veteran Jolene Blackshear. ?I?m back in my weight class, junior flyweight. I won the title at flyweight but now I want to make a run in my weight class. I know that I will go back to flyweight eventually and maybe even higher but for now, 108 pounds is where I want to be.?
In Arias, Enriquez faces a tough fighter who has only been stopped twice and in much higher weight classes.
?She?s fought ?Avispa? Ortiz, who is the straw weight champion, and Nancy Franco, another champ,? Enriquez said of her next opponent. ?I think she will be a good measuring stick of how I perform after the layoff and back at junior flyweight. I don?t look for the knockout, I just fight my fight and I know she is tough but I wouldn?t mind finishing the night early.?
