FLOYD MAYWEATHER TAKES BALTIMORE?S GERVONTA ?TANK? DAVIS UNDER HIS WING

PhilBoxing.com

In early July, Davis traveled to multiple cities with Floyd Mayweather and The Money Team, and has joined his training camp in Las Vegas, Nevada.

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, U.S.A. ? This month, undefeated twenty-year-old featherweight professional boxer, Gervonta "Tank" Davis (Baltimore, Maryland/pro record: 11-0-0, 10 KOs) accompanied top pound-for-pound welterweight boxing champion, Floyd ?Money? Mayweather (Las Vegas, Nevada/pro record: 48-0-0, 26 KOs), on trips to New York City, Washington, D.C., Miami, St. Louis, and Kansas City. He travelled on Floyd?s private jet, participated in Mayweather?s public appearances, observed his business dealings, and took a ride with him on his yacht. Davis is now in Las Vegas, training alongside Mayweather at his gym, Mayweather Boxing Club. Mayweather started training camp in preparation for his next scheduled fight, September 12 at the MGM Grand?s Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. In Davis? previous fight on May 22, 2015, Davis needed just one minute and fifteen seconds to defeat Mexico?s Alberto ?Ironman? Mora (5-4-0, 1 KO) by TKO at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Gervonta Davis said, "Floyd has taken an interest in me because he believes that I can be the next big star in boxing, and he knows I?ve put in work to be ready for that next level. Having an opportunity to travel with The Money Team has been a dream come true. I grew up watching all Floyd?s fights. He is a great teacher, and I?m learning a lot of positive things from him, especially about the business of boxing. He has built himself to be the richest athlete in sports. I feel truly blessed that he would want to give me advice that will help me in my career. He is the top boxer of my generation, both in and outside the ring. I?m going to listen to everything he says and share what I learn with the young fighters that come into the sport after me.?

Davis continued, ?This week, I was in a room with both Floyd and my manager, Al Haymon, and both are really excited about my future in boxing. I had a conversation with Al, and he is very supportive of me and my goals. I will continue to work hard, and I?ll be sure to keep everyone posted on my next fight and opponent when everything becomes official. My story is really big for my city of Baltimore, and proof that hard work can take you to the next level, no matter where you come from. I really appreciate all the supportive messages I?ve received on social media from everyone. Keep supporting me, and I'll fight for you."
Davis? boxing trainer Calvin Ford (Upton Boxing Gym) said, "Floyd?s involvement has been a great learning experience for Tank, and it is a huge story for the Baltimore City Parks and Recreation programs. Gervonta started boxing at Upton Boxing Gym on Pennsylvania Avenue, and to have him reach the highest level in his sport shows that this can happen to other kids if they put in the work, believe in what they are doing, and get support from their city. I can?t wait to see what?s coming next for Gervonta and Team Davis.?
