Experts weigh in on Friday's Chatman-Biosse showdown

PhilBoxing.com

LINCOLN, R.I. (July 16th, 2015) -- Providence, R.I., super middleweight Vladine Biosse makes his long-awaited return to the Ocean State tomorrow in the 10-round main event of CES Boxing's "Rhode To Redemption" card at Twin River Casino when he faces Jersey City, N.J., veteran Chris Chatman, also a familiar face in Rhode Island.

The two will meet face-to-face at today's weigh-in and press conference, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Twin River Casino's Wicked Good Bar & Grill. This event is open to the public.

Tickets for "Rhode To Redemption" are priced at $40.00, $100.00 and $125.00 (VIP) and available for purchase online at www.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

While Biosse (15-6-2, 7 KOs) hasn't fought in Rhode Island since a disputed draw against Rich Gingras in 2013, Chatman (12-5-1, 5 KOs) will be making his second Twin River appearance of 2015 and sixth overall since 2009. He is 3-2 lifetime in Rhode Island, including wins over Thomas Falowo and Grady Brewer.

In anticipation of this heavily-publicized showdown, an expert panel of regional boxing journalists and former professional fighters weighed in with their opinions on what will happen Friday night when the bell rings:

Jason Marchetti
NEBoxing.net

"Despite the string of recent consecutive losses, I still think Vladine is the slight favorite. He's fighting at home where he is undefeated. Chatman is trying to get back on track himself. He looked sluggish and out of character in his last fight at 168 [pounds]. This is going to be a helluva fight, but if Biosse can beat Chatman with his legs and angles, the way [Angel] Camacho did [on April 3rd], then he should get one back in the win column."

Pattee Makowski
FightKings.com

"Biosse hasn't had a win since May 17th, 2013 against Latif Mundy and Chatman hasn't had a win since Grady Brewer back on March 28th, 2014. Both fighters will be coming into the ring ready and looking for the win. Biosse has fought some tough opponents recently, but, in the end, it comes down to this fight. I feel it'll go the distance with Biosse on top with the UD win."

Benny Costantino
Former professional boxer

"I think the fight will be a good one. I am sure Vladine knows he has to win to get back on track and Chatman is always tough, but more one-dimensional then Vlad. Vlad is tough and has the experience to win, so if he fights smart and is in good shape, I see him winning the fight. I am looking forward to a good show."

Jeffrey Freeman
KODigest.com

"An evenly matched battle of tough guys where the winner is uncertain, but hard-punching action is all but guaranteed. Biosse has been on a terrible skid since the loss to Marcus Upshaw. If the former 'Mr. Providence' isn't careful, he'll get crushed by Chris Chatman."

Alex Pierpaoli
KOFantasyBoxing.com

"Both fighters hope to erase the memories of their previous outings and that can only mean one thing for fight fans: action. Vladine Biosse is likely to have all he can handle against the cagey, confident and durable Chris Chatman. Always in shape and extremely motivated after a frustrating points loss in April, Chatman will be very tough in the early going. But, if he's focused and well-conditioned, Biosse's skills and size advantage should prove enough for him to come away with a lopsided unanimous decision."

"Rhode To Redemption" also features a dynamic, six-round welterweight co-feature between undefeated Nick DeLomba (7-0, 1 KO) of Cranston, R.I., and Union City, N.J., southpaw Juan Rodriguez Jr. (12-2, 5 KOs), plus the long-awaited return of unbeaten Worcester, Mass., junior middleweight Khiary Gray (7-0, 5 KOs) in a four-round bout against 28-fight vet Antonio Fernandes of Brockton, Mass.

The undercard features several regional rivalries, starting with a four-round heavyweight rematch between Jean Pierre Augustin (4-0-1, 2 KOs) of Lawrence, Mass., and Solomon Maye (1-4-1, 1 KO) of New Haven, Conn. The two fought to a draw in April.

Also on the undercard, Framingham, Mass., super lightweight Julio Perez makes his pro debut against Boston's Rafael Francis (0-4) and New Bedford, Mass., welterweight Scott Sullivan (1-1, 1 KO) returns to face Providence's Angel Valdez (0-2), both four-round bouts. Lawrence, Mass., lightweight Jacob Solis (1-0) will make his Twin River debut and fight for the first time since 2012 when he faces Salem, Mass., vet Matt Doherty (2-1, 2 KOs) in a four-round bout.

In a late addition to the undercard, Providence light heavyweight Edwin Espinal (6-0, 4 KOs) makes his CES and Twin River debut in a four-round bout against Thomas Gifford (2-2-1, 1 KO) of Hot Springs, Ark.
