LAS VEGAS -- The Dallas Mavericks are through to the second round of the 2015 NBA Summer League after squeaking out a thrilling 88-86 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, 88-86, at the Thomas and Mack Center.
Mavs big man Jeremy Tyler led all scorers with 25 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 11-of-15 from the field, including a put-back with 1.4 seconds left to play. Justin Anderson finished with 16 markers for Dallas while Dwight Powell and Malik Wayns added 12 apiece.
In his best outing thus far in this Summer League, Bobby Parks logged in 15 minutes of playing time and finished with a modest three points. The son of legendary PBA import Bobby Ray Parks Sr., the younger Parks was a two-time UAAP MVP.
Jabari Brown topped the Lakers with 19 points. Julies Randle, who is coming back from a broken leg he sustained in his rookie campaign last season, had accounted for 17 points. Filipino-American Jordan Clarkson, now entering his second season as a Laker also pumped in 17.
Up next for the Mavericks is the NBA D-League Select Team on Thursday night (Friday AM in Manila) while the Lakers tussle with the Utah Jazz in the losers' bracket.
