GOLDEN BOY ENAMORED WITH BAUTISTA

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer estimates that twenty million people in the US and millions more around the world watched Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista in his hard fought win over previously undefeated Sergio Medina of Argentina on the undercard of ?The World Awaits? mega fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr last Sunday, Manila Time.
Schaefer praised the emerging Filipino ring sensation for ?a gutsy performance? in a battle of undefeated fighters. Schaefer said Bautista was in a ?tough fight and he showed his stuff and we are so proud of him, He showed what he?s about. He is a young kid, he?s a hungry kid and he is the kind of guy who never gives up.?
The Golden Boy CEO noted that even when Bautista was in that difficult situation in the seventh round when he was groggy and had to hang on to the ropes ?that is when you see the eye of the tiger and the heart of a champion. That is what Rey Bautista showed and how he came out. Filipinos can be proud of him because you know what he?s not just going to be a great champion but a great person and human being as well. He is humble, he?s honest. He?s such a nice kid.?
Schaefer said ?a lot of other fighters can learn a lot from him.?
