SUICO SENDS NAKAGAWA TO RETIREMENT!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 23 Apr 2007
OSAKA, JAPAN--Randy `Komong Bato` Suico of the Philippines retained his OPBF lightweight crown moments ago here with a well-deserved unanimous decision verdict over fast-moving Tomonori Nakagawa.
Suico found Nakagawa a puzzle early, but was able to solve the problem using his vaunted power punches to snatch the victory via scores of 116-111, 116-111 and 116-114.
With the loss, Nakagawa said he would retire from professional boxing.
`You are very strong. You are very strong,` said a very courteous Nakagawa, with face eerily discontorted, to Suico at the dressing room moments after the fight.
`He wanted to end the fight early, that`s why the opponent found a way to evade his punches. But when Randy boxed and found his second wind, it was all good from there,` said trainer Juanito Ablaca.
With the win, Suico now improves to 26-3, 22 KO`s and gives him a ticket to a possible improvement in his world rankings.
Nakagawa, meanwhile, slipped to 15-6-4, 4 KO`s.
