FIRST TV FIGHT: SERGIO THOMPSON DEFEATS RICARDO ALVAREZ BY UD

MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA -- In the first TV fight of the night, Sergio Thompson (29-3-0, 26KO) of Chetumal, Mexico won the vacant WBC International Lightweight Title by defeating by unanimous decision Ricardo Alvarez (23-3-3, 13KO) of Guadalajara, Mexico. Alvarez was down in the 3rd and the 8th rounds. Scores were 95-93, 95-93 and 97-91 in favor of Thompson.
In the last off-TV fight, Jerry Belmontes (19-3-0, 5KO) of Corpus Christie, Texas beat Australia's Will Tomlinson (21-1-1, 12KO) by unanimous decision with scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 98-92.
