KICKETT IS BACK

PhilBoxing.com

Kickett.
?Cool? Willie Kickett (17-2, 5 KO?s) will make his anticipated return to the boxing ring against Manopnoi Singmanasak (8-12, 4 KO?s) on Friday March 15 at the Thunderdome, Metro City in Perth, Australia.

This will mark the first fight for Kickett since July 2010.

Kickett at 21 years of age had the world at his feet having won the WBO & IBF Asia Pacific Super Featherweight Titles from Argentinean Vicente Martin Rodriguez (36-3-1, 20 KO?s). This shutout victory elevated Kickett into elusive world top ten ratings.

Kickett?s management group was in talks with promoters around the world with world title opportunities until his November 2008 title defence against Ahmed Elomar (16-1-2, 9 KO?s) where Kickett got caught with a great shot that derailed the world championship discussions.

Kickett would bounce back and have two more victories in 2009 before heading over to Los Angeles, California as the chief sparring partner of the WBA Champion of the Decade, Chris ?The Dragon? John (48-0-2, 22 KO?s).

Kickett had fallen ill during the trip, but received an offer from Golden Boy Promotions to fight current WBC Lightweight World Champion Adrien ?The Problem? Broner (26-0, 22 KO?s).

Kickett took the fight in a heartbeat with limited preparation. The fight was a tremendous back and forth dual with Kickett edging the early rounds until Kickett got caught with a highlight reel Broner KO with 2 seconds left in round 6. Broner stated that ?Cool Willie? was one of his most difficult opponents.

Kickett would go onto have two more fights in 2010 before taking a sabbatical from boxing due to a debilitating illness which severely restricted Kickett day to day way of life.

Now having overcome a severe illness and at 26 years of age with 3 Children to support, ?Cool Willie? will return on March 15 at Metro City in Perth and has vowed to begin his journey back and become champion of the world.

Kickett has dedicated his comeback to his kids.

Also on the Thunderdome card is Luke Sharp vs Jeremy Allan, Jeremy Van Diemen vs Xavier Lucas, Matt Garlett vs Weng Heya.
