De Mori stops Reed in Five

PhilBoxing.com

Australian Heavyweight prospect Mark ?The Dominator? de Mori (20-1-2, 18 KO's) did what he had to do in defeating veteran ?Dangerous? Damon Reed (46-17, 32 KO?s) via a 5th Round TKO at the Jupiters Hotel & Casino, Queensland Australia on Friday night.

From the start, de Mori came out using his jab and try to work the body, while Reed was content to keep moving around the ring and keep his distance from the power of de Mori.

Reed continued to keep his distance and move around in Rounds 2 and 3 as de Mori seemed to get frustrated, but was still able to land a few body shots.

de Mori had Reed hurt and off balance with a good left hook to the head at the start of round 4 and landed more body shots that continued to hurt Reed.

In Round 5 the body shots started to take its toll on Reed as he took a knee. de Mori followed up soon after the 8 count, trapped Reed in the corner and sent him down to the canvas where referee Phil Austin called a stop to the fight. Time was 2:31 of Round 5.

?The Dominator? was to take a fight with former WBC World Heavyweight Champion Samuel "The Nigerian Nightmare" Peter, but that fight fell through. Reed who went the distance with James Toney in 2011 stepped up to take this fight with de Mori.

?I was told by Don King I was going to fight Samuel Peter but it didn?t happen. I am still open for that fight or any other big name in the division? de Mori said

?It was great to get in the ring against such an experienced guy like Damon Reed and to be able to stop him quicker than James Tony and Hasim Rahman did.?

?Reed was extremely awkward, very elusive as he didn?t stop moving and he was hard to hit,? de Mori said.

If I?m going to be recognised as a top heavyweight contender, these are the kinds of guys I need take out.?

de Mori thanked Damon Reed to taking the fight on short notice and everyone for all the support.

de Mori he said he will rest this weekend and Christmas and be back in the gym next week.

?As soon as the big fight comes up for me, I have to be ready.? de Mori said.
