East Coast Pinoys celebrate Donaire's victory By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Mon, 21 Feb 2011 Central Jersey - Manny Pacquiao started it all. He brings Filipinos all over the world together. Whenever he fights, it is not only an event in Vegas or Texas where he fights, it also is a cause of gathering for thousands of overseas Filipino workers, of Filipino expats and immigrants around the globe. Dayoffs are scheduled around his fight, parties are planned and get-togethers are anticipated for months. The thing though is that Manny fights twice a year now and the void between fights is filled by fights involving Pinoy fighters. Last Saturday was another cause to party for Pinoys. His apparent heir to Pinoy boxing stardom has an important fight. It is supposed to be Nonito Donaire's coming out party. And indeed he came, he arrived and Pinoys all over the continental USA partied. This Philboxing writer hosted a Donaire party in Central Jersey Saturday night. Nothing beats being surrounded by family, friends, lotsa food, beer and liquor and of course a Filipino fighter winning in a nationally televised boxing event. And a good win at that. It is "Pinoy Pride" once again. My family and friends just like the rest of non-boxing following countrymen of us now knows of a different Pinoy pugilist not named Pacquiao, proving that, we are not just a one-hit-wonder with Manny. Just like when Manny was just beginning and nobody has heard of him, Donaire is also on the same track as him. We hope though that he inherits Pacquiao's humility as his name grows. I asked Donaire when I met him on Texas for the Pacquiao fight if he considers fighting in the East Coast and that we will support him if he does. He said, "I don't know yet... maybe." We hope he does though in the future and me and my family and friends will be supporting the Filipino Flash all the way. Mabuhay ka Nonito. Mabuhay ang lahat ng Pinoy sa buong mundo!
