RP offered to host pair of int?l boxing meets By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Sun, 18 Jul 2010  If plans do not misconstrue, the Philippines could well be the site of two international boxing competitions next year, including what could be the biggest sporting event ever the country will be hosting. International Amateur Boxing Association president, Dr. Ching Ku Wu has offered Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines chair, businessman-sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan and president Ricky Vargas to host either the World Women?s Boxing Championship or the Asian Men?s Championship, both scheduled next year under their AIBA calendar of events. Wu made the offer during the opening ceremony of the First MVP International Friendship Boxing Cup where he, along with Asian Boxing Confederation president Chang Jiangping and executive secretary Richard Gouzheng were the special guests. Vargas told the Manila Times all that is needed for the country to be awarded the right is a letter of intention from the ABAP, which he added he has already submitted. ?The offer, actually, is for us to host the World Women?s which, according to Dr. Wu stands to be attended by at least 100 of its more a hundred members,? Vargas,s PLDT executive vice president, said. ?If we get it, that would earn the distinction of being the biggest event we will be staging in the country.? ?But for me, I prefer the Asian Men?s kasi qualifying tournament yun for the 2012 London Olympic Games so that if we hold the tournament here, medyo lalakas ang tsansa na ating mga boksingero na ma-qualify, hindi ba?? Vargas reasoned out. ?Anyway, it?s up for the chairman (Pangilinan) and the ABAP board which tournament between the too are we going to host. Pangilinan, MVP to the business and sporting communities, for his part said he prefers any of the twin affairs or both, if possible. ?We can get so many mileage, of course, if we agree on holding the World Women?s here.
