Manny to complete a Triple Crown in 2010 By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Fri, 15 Jan 2010 Did you know that World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao stands to score a triple whammy before the end of 2010? The 31-year-old seven-division belt-holder is set to defend his 147-pound crown he won only last November against challenger and former champion Joshua Clottey and if he succeeds retaining the crown snatched from erstwhile Puerto Rican titlist Miguel Cotto via a sensational 12th round knockout, he will be collecting the first jewel of an expected Triple Crown. As everybody knows, he?ll be pursuing a political career that was aborted by a loss two years ago in hometown General Santos City by seeking a congressional seat in the lone district of Sarangani, his wife Jinkee?s province and a victory, notwithstanding he?ll be up against another powerful family. Should he defy the odds, that will be victory no. 2. And win no. 3 would be coming from the lawsuit he filed against the Floyd Mayweather Jr. camp, including his dad, uncle, Golden Boy Promotions top men Richard Schaefer and Oscar De La Hoya in regards to the dropped out Pacquiao-Mayweather bout that was billed as the richest ever in the sport of sweet science. Clottey could proved to be a tough nut to crack though as projected by his handlers themselves, including multi-awarded trainer Freddie Roach, but still boxing grapevines still pick the Filipino icon to prevail despite the distractions of a political campaign. Ranged against a member of a political Chiongbian dynasty, it looks Pacquiao would again be frustrated in his bid to become a lawmaker, but running under the Manny Villar-led Nacionalista Party, holding office inside the august hall of the Lower House is not that impossible. Both?that against Cottley and the other against Chiongbian -- are tough fights that he needs more than luck, like parting ways with riches acquired by banging bodies and faces atop the ring, to succeed Hurdling Chiongbian and represent Sarangani in congress would eat Manny?s time so that it is held doubtful whether another fight this year can be scheduled, including that against Mayweather is still possible. Meaning if Mayweather hopes that a fight with Pacquiao can still materializes, he should pray that the Filipino loses anew in his bid for a seat in congress. Meanwhile, the Pacman is set to leave Sunday for the United States to start begin his scheduled seven-week preparations for his March 13 confrontation with Cottley at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Pacquiao will be joined in his trip to Los Angeles by Canadian adviser Michael Koncz, trainer Nonoy Neri, lawyer Jing Gacal and assistant cook Haplas Fernandez. Assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez has gone ahead at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles and is already mapping out training regimen with Roach. A press conference for the fight will be held in New York on Wednesday. Reports from GenSan has it that Pacquiao has been playing basketball with his MP Warriors team the past three weeks. This is besides involving himself, too, in jetskiing and scuba diving for two days now. (EDDIE G.
