GENSAN'S ?MARVELOUS? MARVIN SONSONA

PhilBoxing.com

Possibly the biggest showdown thus far in 2009 for SGG Sports Promotions is coming your way at the Cebu Coliseum this coming May 28th that will feature one of the most exciting youngest prospect ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona in a triple main event attraction.

Youthful flyweight and General Santos City prospect Marvin Sonsona has produced eleven sensational knock-outs wins out of twelve victories and currently holds the WBO Asia Pacific flyweight Youth title that he won against Manila based prospect Joel Rafols on April 10, 2008 of last year that promted him to a top 13 flyweight contender in the world.

Since then, all his following opponents have ended up on ring canvas and opponents are now hard to find.

Is this Gen San kid the next big thing coming out of the Philippines? Marvelous Marvin is sure turning out to be on the verge of making a name for himself as he moves forward to take on two-time former WBC world champion Wandee Singwangcha for the vacant WBO Oriental flyweight title on May 28.

Wandee Singwangcha, with an impressive 68 professional bouts that includes racking up two WBC world titles and several WBC regional titles to his credit is currently world ranked at number 12 by the IBF. He will surely be an uphill battle for the Gen San Kid to take on.

Fans believe it is a very dangerous foe for a up-coming prospect however, Marvin Sonsona needs competition Gello-ani said. "No one wants to fight this kid here in the Philippines so we are taking chances and I am sure it will pay off."

Just recently in his last fight, Marvin's opponent ended up only three rounds as the veteran Louie Bantigue failed to cope with Sonsona's punches.

"This is why we need to test this kid and take chances against credible opponents to see how good Marvin is. We all do respect Wandee Singwangcha, he is not just an opponent but a live former world champion that has credentials of legitimately beating top Filipino contenders. This is what makes it exciting," Gello-ani said.

The two time world champion Wandee Singwangcha has been credited for beating several Filipino champions such as former WBF, WBU world champion Rolando Toyogan, RP champion Lito Dangud, RP champion Flash Murilo, WBC International champion Ernesto Rubillar, RP champion Jojo Bardon and former 5 times World title challenger Juanito Rubillar that he convincingly beat.

Nevertheless, Sonsona?s manager Dr. Rajan Yraola and head coach Jun Agrabio have all the confidence that their fighter will win against the former world champion.

?We want the best, and the best for ?Marvelous? Marvin is Wandee Singwangcha who we believe has all the credentials. The team is gunning for the vacant WBO Oriental flyweight title to solidify a higher ranking with the WBO and thats our intention. Our team knows it?s a dangerous fight but come fight night we will show that Marvelous Marvin is ready for a world title," explained coach Agrabio in his native Bisaya language.

Gello-ani said that he's sure the WBO will take notice of this after the fight because Sonsona intends to win and win impressively. "Hopefully it will propel ?Marvelous Marvin? to the next level and get a chance at the WBO world crown next year, we sure want a crack at Omar Navarez title if he is still the champion."

Meanwhile, the star studded night of May 28th at the Cebu Coliseum will be a treat of exciting matches that will also feature Ramie Laput defending his WBO Inter-continental Jr. featherweight title against former WBO world champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin and WBO #8 World rated Jr. Flyweight Jhonriel Casimero will defend his WBO Asia Pacific title against Philippines rated Aldin Diale.

Also a special attraction, WBO #8 Anthony ?Rocky? Marcial will do battle against tough youngster Eric Macas of Black Scorpion of Lanao del Norte.
