According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, Xiangqi, commonly known as Chinese chess or elephant chess, is a strategy board game for two players. It is the most popular board game in China. Xiangqi is in the same family of games as shogi, janggi, Western chess, chaturanga, and Indian chess.
"Xiangqi is part of the Chinese tradition and for many years it has been played in the Philippines and around the world," said Chief Arbiter Jan Emmanuel Garcia, a certified International Master in chess.
It shall be recalled that Garcia made an overall fourth place finished during the 17th Thousand Island Cups Philippine Xiangqi Open held at the Philippine Xiangqi Federation headquarters, Dasmarinas Corporate Center in Binondo, Manila last July 14, 2024.-Marlon Bernardino-
