PhilBoxing.com

JINAN, CHINA ? Wang Jianjing bucked a cut on his right eyebrow to win the middleweight finals of the Major League Boxing tournament against Huang Juxiang by unanimous decision.

Both southpaws were content with probing in the early rounds but they opened up and traded power shots in the third. But a clash of heads opened up a cut on Wang?s right eyebrow but this did not slow down the exchanges one bit.

Wang continued to increase his work rate and the bleeding was stopped by his cutmen going into the sixth round. Wang fired one barrage after another to pull ahead.

Huang was more active in the seventh but Wang employed an effective stick and move routine in the eighth and final round to capture the WBO Greater China belt in his division.

The scores ? Mekin Sumon and Han Hongxiang both scored it 79-73, Li Feng had it 80-72.

This bout capped the back to back weekend fight card held at the Maida Energy Sports Center. This was the third WBO Greater China title bout held in Jinan, the first two were held last June in Jinan?s Huang Ting Stadium.

The best bout on the undercard was between lightweights Hung Chiaching and Saierlan Muerzhabieke. It was fast-paced with both fighters trading well-placed combos. It ended in a majority draw.

For the other undercard results ? Cruiserweight Wang Jianzheng stopped Alimujiang Abulaiti in two rounds, Bao Jiancong won a six round split verdict vs. Li Guangxiong, Li Yangyang and Qingjirumu fought to a split draw, Xu Weihao beat Wu Fan by UD, Aketeliete Yelejian wob by UD vs. He Shuhao, Liu Qiang and Cai Shidong battled to a majority draw, Sun Hao got split decision win vs. Wang Cheng and Zeng Yujie won by UD against Pan Fei.

In the main bout of the first day of competitions, Yelieqiate Nihemaituola, the reigning WBO Greater China bantamweight titlist, knocked out Thai Kajonsak Pothong (Kaichon Sor Vorapin) in the second round.

The southpaw Yelieqiati, who was fighting as a super bantamweight, used his speed to solid lefts and decked Pothong twice. Referee Han Hongxiang signaled the end at the 2:52 mark.

The best fight on the undercard was the bloody four round majority draw between Xia Wei and Ayibole Mulatihan. Both boxers were cut due to a clash of heads in the second round, Ayibole on the left eyelid and Xia, on his left side of the scalp. Both boxers traded heavy well placed shots till the end.

For the other results: Huo Ziqiang beat Li Weifang by unanimous decision, Guo Yuanqing and Zhang Zhaoxin battled to a split draw, Lin Jinwei beat Si Zhicheng by split decision, Lu He also won by split verdict over Du Tao, Li Bai got a unanimous nod over Zhaoxidongzhou, Lu Sishun won by unanimous decision over Aersi Wulazi, and Huerban Qitehe earned a majority decision over Hu Xingqiang.
