BACOLOD NATIVE IS SINGAPORE CHESS CHAMPION; CEBU ACE OVER-ALL 2ND PLACE

FIDE Master (FM) Nelson Villanueva went for draws against countryman Jimson Bitoon and Richard Lean of Singapore to clinch the 6th AMK CC All Women's & Family Chess Challenge 2017 - Family Men (Open) chess championship last July 30, 2017 at the Ang Mo Kio Community Centre in Singapore.
The Bacolod City native tallied five wins and two draws to raise his total to 6.0 points after seven games of play.
Villanueva, former top player of Rizal Technological University (RTU) Mandaluyong, earlier beat Sheng Yuan Soo , Ray Pratik Burman Sean Christian and Ethan Goh of Singapore, respectively.
Bitoon, meantime defeated Aldrin Wong Shyun Fwu of Singapore in the last round to finish in a tie for 2nd to 3rd places with fellow 5.5 pointers Sean Christian Goh of Singapore.
However, after the tie break points was applied, Bitoon, the pride of Medellin, Cebu, won over-all 2nd place by virtue of superior quotient.
It shall be recalled last July 16, 2017, Villanueva and Bitoon spearheaded Intchess Asia chess team into a over-all third place along with National Master Roberto Suelo Jr. of Quezon City and Lincoln Yap of Cebu in the Nanyang Racial Harmony Team Chess Challenge 2017 - Open was held at the Nanyang Community Club in Singapore.
