JAMIE HILT VS MATT BURGOYNE: UNDEFEATED RECORDS ON THE LINE FOR SOUTH WEST TITLE PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Mar 2016 ![]() SOMEBODIE'S 0 IS GOING TO GO WHEN JAMIE HILT TAKES ON MATT BURGOYNE in a five round welterweight bout on the TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 13 card on May 13. Both men are undefeated in the pro ranks. Hilt has amassed a record of four fights for three wins and one draw. Burgoyne has four wins and one draw from five bouts. Burgoyne is also the current holder of the Queensland super welter weight title. Burgoyne and Hilt have made no secret of their desire to challenge for the State welterweight strap. Both have ties to our local region so this 5 round contest will be contested for the South West title - the winner to move one step closer to a Queensland title fight. "It's pretty much a State title eliminator," Promoter Brendon Smith said. "Both boys are undefeated so that says it all. "It's a great fight between two in form fighters. "Both have recent wins over Matt Te Paa. "This is a great fight and as the promoter I was thrilled when I was able to put it together. "There is a lot on the line and both have a style that will make for an action packed fight." Jamie Hilt last fought on the undercard of Paul Gallen and Herman Ene-Purcell where he picked up an impressive points win over Matt Te Paa. Burgoyne looms as Hilt's toughest test to date. "It's a tough fight for Jamie, but we wouldn't have it any other way," Hilt's trainer Craig Monagle said. "Jamie has developed a great following and that's because he's never in a dull fight and he's always willing to test himself. "Matt Burgoyne is a test, he's undefeated, he already has a State title and he has knock out power. "We respect him greatly but I do believe it's a fight Jamie can win. "We just need to make sure Jamie peaks on the night. "A win here and it should put us in a prime position to fight for the State title." Matt Burgoyne also has plenty to fight for. Not only does he want to protect his undefeated record and move a step closer to a second State title but he also has sentimental reasons for wanting to win in Toowoomba on May 19. "I have family ties to the Darling Downs area and I've always wanted to fight down there," Townsville based Burgoyne said. " I was born in Toowoomba and spent my first thirteen years in Toowoomba, Leyburn and Clifton before my family relocated to Townsville. "In the Clifton area the Burgoyne family was always actively involved with a wide array of community services (lions club, red hatters etc.) and endeavored to help others in any way possible. "My grandfather and grandmother have since both passed away and it was always a dream of there?s for me to return to where I was born and fight. "I?m dedicating this fight to there memory." The Matt Burgoyne vs Jamie Hilt bout is another great fight to a growing card for TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 13 on May 13. An announcement on when tickets will go on sale will be made in the next seven days. ![]() |
