L.A. Diaries: NBA star Steph Curry meets PacMan's kids (PHOTOS)

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES - A lily white Nissan Altima, the Hertz rental car I picked up at Union Station on the 800 block of north Alameda street had a scant 4,700 miles on the odometer. The four-door sedan reeked of new leather, drives fast and handles well. I rode it like a pony in Day 2 of my L.A. swing.

After waking up in a fog of deprived sleep, first stop was Good-Ha restaurant two blocks from our hotel. This place is easy to love. Good food. Good service. Good people.

As usual, I left a trail of destruction. This time the unwilling victims included a tray of grilled pork , beef soup and dried fish. Before walking out of the joint with a protruding belly, I washed everything down with a cup of fresh cantaloupe juice.

Next stop was a quick jaunt to nearby Fountain avenue where I met with fellow PhilBoxing and NBA.com Philippines writer Nick Roska, who has covered the Lakers and Clippers since 2008.

Still staggering from a long shift saving lives as a medical professional, a job that adequately breads his butter, Nick rekinkled our friendship by handing me over a tall bottle of Tanduay Superior, a dark orange-like poison that another PhilBoxing writer --- Mohan Ramchandani --- brought back especially for me from the Philippines.

Staples Center: Clippers host the Warriors.

Next stop was Staples Center to cover a battle between Western Conference giants. Considering L.A's notorious traffic, the ride to the arena was fairly smooth. I took Vermont Avenue for about two miles and turned left at Figueroa street.

Thanks to Steph Curry's 27 points and another 25 from Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors shoveled themselves out of a 17-point hole to beat the Los Angeles Clippers, 110-106.

Power forward Blake Griffin tallied 40 points, but it wasn't enough to save the Clippers, whose seven-game win streak was snapped by the league's best team with a 61-13 slate.

If you think the MVP award is still in doubt, you need to think again. That trophy belongs to Curry. Unlike James Harden of the Houston Rockets, Curry doesn't dominate the offense by taking too many field goals. Steph distributes the ball equally and takes over when the moment demands. Steph makes 3s with effortless grace and actually plays reliable defense.

After the game, Curry met with two of Manny Pacquiao's sons --- Jimeul and Michael.

If the MVP is also the league's ambassador, there is no better representative than Curry, a fan friendly superstar who is extremely accommodating to both the media and his fans.

It was 1 am when I finally wormed back to my room. Sleep beckoned, but Tanduay was calling. And I eagerly answered.
