CHICAGO -- Derrick Rose and Pau Gasol combined for 40 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 107-72 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night at the Smoothie King Center.
The Bulls triumph snapped a three-game losing streak, giving them a 31-20 record and a half-game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Central Division leadership.
It was a devastating loss for the Pelicans, whose star player, Anthony Davis, left the game in the 4:16 mark of the second quarter with a shoulder contusion after a bad fall following an alley-oop dunk. Davis posted eight points and five rebounds in only 13 minutes of action.
After Davis left the game, the Bulls went on a 40-11 run to settle matters,
Tony Allen had 19 points and Jimmy Butler added 18 for the Bulls, who sank 43 of 84 field goals (51.2 percent). Chicago made only four of their 17 thrown 3s but they outrebounded the Pelicans 45-38 and issued two more assists with 18.
Tyreke Evans finished with 15 points for New Orleans while Alexis Ajunias added 10. The Pelicans were held to 37.2 percent from the field (32 of 86 field goals) and 23.5 percent from 3-point territory (4-of-17). (HDS)
