BANAL READY TO EXCHANGE LEATHER WITH SOR SINGYU (MANILA PRESSCON)

MALATE, MANILA – WBO number one contender AJ “Bazooka” Banal (28-1-1, 20 KOs) is ready to exchange leather with number two-ranked Thai Pungluang Sor Singyu for the vacant WBO bantamweight title scheduled on October 20 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

During the PSA Forum at the Shakey's Malate, Manila Tuesday, the two protagonists exchanged bold predictions for their upcoming title fight, left vacant by the Mexican titleholder Jorge Arce, who moved up to super bantamweight.

The “Bazooka” was accompanied by his trainer, Edmund Villamor who predicted a knockout in the 9th round. “We studied the previous fights of Sor Singyu particularly his fights with southpaw opponents considering that AJ is a southpaw. After studying the fights including fights with orthodox opponents, we realized that he kept on moving forward and threw hard punches. This, we already prepared hard and we will employ strategies to counter his style.”

“As of now, AJ already logged at least 40 rounds and counting. We expect to have more than a hundred rounds when the fight comes on October. After that, we are confident that we will knock Singyu out in the 9th round, ” Villamor added.

When asked on his stamina, Banal quickly responded, “My endurance will no longer be a problem. I have to learn to pace myself. I made a very big mistake in my fight against Rafael Concepcion wherein I was very eager to knock him out early resulting to my sad defeat. But I learned a lot and promise not to make the same mistake again. If an opening comes during the fight, then I will knock him out!”

“I waited a very long time for this opportunity to fight for a world title. This is a big break, which was given to me by the ALA Promotions. I will not let the pressure of youth overtake my preparations. Now that I am already a mature person, I will fight for my family especially that I am the breadwinner. I want to win this fight in order to be in the big stage soon. But before that happens, I want to take away the obstacle in Sor Singyu,” Banal assured his fans.

Sor Singyu is not a pushover fighter. He has an impressive boxing record of 42-1 with 27 knockouts. Prior to training boxing, he has 25 Muay Thai fights in the span of 8 years. This shows that Sor Singyu has an excellent stamina because of his background as a Muay Thai fighter. This would mean that he is prepared to wage war against Banal even up to twelve rounds.

Also, Singyu already fought 14 Filipinos winning all of them easily and 10 of those wins were coming by way of knock out. In fact, he defeated Marvin Tampus last year via 6th TKO.

“This is my first time here in the Philippines,” Pungluang speaking through interpreter Michel Du, representative for One Songcai Promotions. “I would like to thank all for coming here. Thank you for this opportunity.”

When asked about his predictions of the upcoming fight, Sor Singyu said, “We will see on October 20, 2012. But, I think I am going to knock out Banal in the 7th round.”

In response Banal said, “I am sure that I will not be added to the list of Filipino victims in his resume. Maybe, he knocked out the tricycle drivers.”

The fight covered and telecast by ABS-CBN.
