TRONGCO DEMOLISHES REPLACEMENT FOE VIA 2ND ROUND TKO AT 'BAKBAKAN SA ELORDE'

PhilBoxing.com

The reigning WBC International Flyweight Champion Renan Trongco of the Elorde Boxing Gym demolished replacement foe Jupher Marayan via TKO in the second round in the scheduled ten-round non-title bout in the main event of the Bakbakan sa Elorde held at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex, Paranaque City.

In the opening round, Trongco, who is also a former WBC Youth Flyweight Champion, immediately introduced himself to the worthy replacement fighter by unleashing good combinations and stiff jabs prompting Marayan to counter a series of combinations, but Trongco wisely evaded Marayan's counter punches.

In the beginnning of the second round, Trongco was able to land perfectly timed jabs to the face of Marayan, but he was unfazed and threw a left and right combo of his own. In the middle of the second round, Marayan was caught with a hard right to his face and was followed by a flurry of bombs thrown by Trongco sending him to the ropes and ready to fall. Marayan was able to wisely moved out of danger, but the champion was relentless in his attack and was determined to end the bout early throwing laser guided combinations resulting to the inability of Marayan to answer a number of punches prompting veteran referee Silvester Abainza to stop the fight at 1:56 minutes in the second round.

With the stoppage, the judges at ringside, Romy Yulo, Jerrold Tomeldan and Dionis Jacobe were not able to score the action-packed main event.

With the win, Renan Trongco improved his record at 15 wins, 4 losses with 9 knockouts. His originial opponent, a former WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Flyweight Weljan Ugbaniel (W12-L2-D1, 3KO) of Sarangani Province was supposed to challenge Trongco for the WBC International Flyweight Championship, but he had to pull out from the fight due to an undisclosed injury.
