Ana Julaton fights on: ?I can?t see myself ending in that fashion?

PhilBoxing.com

Ana ?The Hurricane? Julaton and his team had big plans prior to her August 17th bout against Celina Salazar in Cancun, Mexico. There were talks that she would fight for another world title after that stint and that fight will possibly land in the biggest boxing card of this year in the recently concluded Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul Alvarez blockbuster event.

But, the boxing gods had other plans. Julaton lost via Unanimous Decision against Salazar and all plans had to take a back seat for the former Filipina-American champ.

Burdened by the defeat, Julaton had to explain her performance to her long-time promoter and advisor, Allan Tremblay right after the fight.

?I looked at Allan face to face. We were all just kind of surprise. He was wondering. What was it? What happened? Did I lose it?? Julaton recalled.

?I was sitting there and I told him, I still have it. I still have it.?

Julaton stayed in Cancun after the fight, rested and contemplated on her career and where to proceed from there. Will she call it a day or will she keep lacing those Everlasts?

?Right after the fight I spent a couple of days in Cancun, just all kind of just talk it all out and I can?t see myself ending in that fashion.?

That train of thought was all she needed. She was back at the UNLV Gym, hitting heavy bags and performing conditioning exercises, ten days removed from her disappointing defeat in Cancun.

Julaton, Tremblay and trainer, Angelo Reyes met again during the Mayweather Jr.-Alvarez fight week. Tremblay, once again asked Julaton about her previous performance and what her plans were about her career.

?When we talked, it was a little tough for him to like read me face value. He thought I was really emotional. I did not get to see him until September 10th. We came out to Las Vegas and then we got to sit down and talk about it. He thought I was a little more logical then and that I had time to think about it. I just told him all the things that I was going through my head and I told him, that wasn?t me.?

Tremblay believed her and in less than three months after her loss, Julaton will once again climb a boxing ring this Friday night (Saturday in the Philippines) in Progreso in the Yucatan, when she squares off against Perla Hernandez (10-6-3, 2 KOs) of Mexico.

Julaton and Coach Angelo had to alter things during this camp. They spent time in Reno, Nevada for some altitude training, had sparring at the Mayweather Gym where he spent some ?good, solid hour? with Roger Mayweather, that in addition to the UNLV Gym where she is a mainstay.

?We just kind of went back to the basics, there is a lot of things that I did not do on the last camp that I?ve done in the previous year when I was active. I really sat there and talked it out with Angelo and went on the direction that we did,? Julaton explained.

?We just got back to the core basics of everything, physically, mentally, the format of the strength and conditioning, the mentality of where everyone is at. I am going up there to fight alone but it is team chemistry over the course of these few weeks. We completely changed everything.?

Julaton and her opponent Hernandez both made weight Thursday, a day prior to their 10 round fight. Julaton weighed in at 123.5 pounds while Hernandez is at 124 pounds.

Like the rest of the stars of Philippine boxing, in Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire Jr. and Brian Viloria, Julaton suffered a setback in her boxing career. But she is thankful of the support that she received from her fans, countrymen in America and the Philippines, and friends who encouraged her during that tough loss.

?I just want to thank them for all the support, obviously the last fight was a tough time but it was just so heartwarming just to hear and see positive comments, the positive feedbacks. People were like, you?ll be back, don?t worry. Just get back on your feet. Stuff like that, it really helps.?

"It is touching, it is pretty neat to be in one of the worst moments of your career and you have people backing you," her voice cracking in the other line as she recounted the numerous consolations she received after her last fight.

Tonight in Mexico, the country of her numerous battles in the past, Ana Julaton will attempt to come back, stronger and better- both as a boxer and a person.
