PACQUIAO OUT TO PROVE HIS DETRACTORS WRONG

PhilBoxing.com

MANILA (PNA) - Boxing Treasure Manny Pacquiao starts his long, 10-week preparation Monday for his coming comeback fight with Brandon Rios when he plunges into serious training at his own Wild Card Gym here.

He knows there?s no room for complacency in his encounter with the American, reason, he said why he designed what the longest build up program in his career in an effort to vault back from a twin defeats he suffered last year and prove to all and sundry that he still has what it takes to fight.

The fight is set November 24 Manila time at the posh Venetian Resort Hotel in Macau.

?I know that not a few have already been counting me out and I want to prove them wrong,? the soon-to-be 35 year-old told this writer in Tagalog after a basketball game Wednesday night at the British School-Manila where his Team Pacquiao beat twice Team Zamboanga in a pair of goodwill games for ?Peace in Zamboanga City.?

?Rios is a dangerous fighter, as dangerous as the others I fought before, kaya naman dapat nating paghandaan mabuti lalo na ngayong kailangan kong muling patunayan that my career is not yet on the downslide as many are saying,? the only man to win eight world championships in as many weight division uttered.

Pacquiao, who lost to Tim Bradley via a questionable split decision and to arch-nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez on a stunning sixth round knockout in his twin 2012 appearances atop the ring, has, actually been undergoing light training consisting of playing basketball and sporadic appearances on the ring the past two weeks while shuttling back and forth from Manila to General Santos City.

?Pero ngayon, seryoso na ang ensayo, I want that when Freddie (Roach, his trainer) comes next month, nasa kondisyon na ako para tumagal sa programang inihanda niya para sa laban,? Pacquiao said.

Roach, along with his choice sparring partners in the General Santos camp ? up-and-coming Chinese Lian Hui and Korean-based Briton Liam Vaughan ? will be arriving October 7.

Roach, as quoted earlier by Filipino assistant Marvin Somodio, said focus of training will be on how Pacquiao can knockout Rios.

Until Roach?s arrival, training regimen under the watchful eyes of assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez, will be roadwork at the Acharon Sports Complex oval in the morning and gym activities in the afternoon.

Pacquiao reaffirmed his decision against pitching camp in Baguio City, which had been a highlight of his preparations in many of his previous fights, saying there?s no need for a high-altitude training.

Reports though are that the cold weather in Macau in November is in the proximity of Baguio. Pacquiao will actually dividing his time between training and his responsibilities as a congressman representing the Province of Sarangani.

?Matter of time management lang naman yan. The reason, precisely, why I chose to pitch camp here is to be near my constituents so I can address their problems,? he reasoned out. ?At saka para mapalapit ako sa pamilya ko, sa mga anak ko at kay Jinkee.?
