Pacquiao's win sets up Barrera fight By Hermie Rivera PhilBoxing.com Wed, 22 Nov 2006 Some ten months to the day Manny'Pacman' Pacquiao knocked out Erik 'El Terrible' Morales, the Filipino boxing hero was once again in Las Vegas pulverizing the Mexican's noggin' and putting his chief rival away for the count before a jam-packed crowd at the Thomas and Mack Center, scene of their earlier slugfest. Manny's exhilarating knockout of Erik in their viciously fought rubber bout has enchanced Marco Antonio Barrera's chances for a rematch assuming Pacquiao's latest problem with his promoters is resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Thus far, it has been a busy year for the Filipino ring icon with enviable wins topped by his second straight kayo of the once feared fistic mogul of Mexico. So devastating was Pacquiao's victory that Morales had to sue for time in order to enable him to sort out sort out his self-inflicted mess in the confines of his home---mulling over the possibility of outright retirement. Keep in mind that there was an offer of Pacquiao for Morales to call it a day once it was made abundantly clear that Erik would not go anywhere--career-wise--while the Pacman stays on as his strenuous tormentor in their chosen weight division. Morales' workouts leading to the 'finale' with Pacquiao were simply gruelling yet he failed badly when confronted for three short rounds by arguably the hardest hitter in the super-featherweight class In any case, there was hardly a doubt as to who was the absolute boss when Manny got out from the gates with a Secretariat-like start-- banging away merrily until the gutsy Mexicano called it a night. Manny's jabs, hooks and straights did Erik in, leading viewers to wonder how Erik could even survive those cataclysmic lefts up to the third round. Well done Sir Manny! Now, a new set of wannabes are raring to test the mettle of the newest king of the ring. The line forms to the right gentlemen. But this will take awhile for the Filipino ring icon will have to give her daughter Princess his sweet hug first before stepping once more to the courts for the resolution of the latest imbroglio involving his feuding promoters Oscar de la Hoya versus Bob Arum.
