BANGKOK, Thailand---THE Philippine Memory Team headed by veteran campaigner Roberto Racasa and first Filipino Grandmaster (GM) of Memory Mark Anthony Castaneda led the country in sweeping the much coveted 10 gold medals at the conclusion of Mind Festival and 5th Thailand International Open Memory Championships here at the Kasetsart University on Saturday.

Racasa, a graduate student of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) dubbed as "Father of the Philippine Memory Sports" and top gunner of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO)-Mandaluyong-Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Philippine Memory Team won the gold medal for the Historic and Future Dates and the Names and Faces category.

New Philippine record at the speed cards competition

On the other hand, Castaneda, the pride of Mandaluyong City wows the crowd by memorizing one deck of card in just 58.84 seconds for the gold medal in the speed card event. He also broke his own record at 2011 World 'Olympic'Memory Championships last December in Guangzhou, China with 1 minute and 10 seconds.

He also topped the 10 minute Cards, speed numbers, 15 minute number and spoken numbers by memorizing 100 consecutive series of random numbers with 1 second interval.

But the biggest revelation in the tournament happened when the 10-year-old whiz kid Jamyla Lambunao of St. Scholastica Academy of Marikina won the Random Words event.

Sharing the limelight are 24-year-old call center employee Cristine Barao of Paranaque City who dominated the Abstract Image as well as 15-year-old Princess Mendoza of Antipolo City ruled the Binary Digits event.

Over-all champion in their respective categories are: Castaneda for the Men's category; Mendoza for the junior category; Lambunao for the kids group and University of the Philippines (UP) Manila Campus BS Speech Pathology student Mary Shairmaine Dianquinay for the women's bracket.

Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos Jr. extend his heartfelt congratulatory to the Philippine Memory Team.

"Congratulations PCSO-Mandaluyong-Bagong Henerasyon Philippine Memory Team. Once again you proved to the world how intellectualy competitive Filipinos are" said Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos Jr.
