WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLEHEADER FEATURED ON FOX DEPORTES ON JULY 14 WITH JESUS SILVESTRE VS. EDWIN DIAZ AND JANETH PEREZ VS. RIYO TOGO IN THE MAIN EVENT AND CO-FEATURE

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES, July 6 - FOX Deportes will bring a world championship doubleheader to fight fans around the world on Saturday, July 14 when Jesus "Negrito" Silvestre meets up with Edwin Diaz for the vacant WBA Interim Strawweight World Championship at El Palenque De La Feria En Tepic Nayarit in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. In the co-main event, the championship action continues as the WBA Female Bantamweight World Title will be on the line in a fight between Janeth "Cuisilla" Perez and Riyo Togo.

Silvestre vs. Diaz and Perez vs. Togo are presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions. The FOX Deportes broadcast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.

22-year-old Jesus Silvestre (24-3, 18 KO's) possesses an intriguing mix of technique and power in the ring, making the Nayarit, Mexico native one of his nation's top talents. Fighting at home for the first time in over two years, Silvestre has gone from prospect to contender in that time, winning six of his last seven fights, with four of those wins coming by knockout. On July 14, the WBA Fedecentro Minimumweight titlist is ready to take the next step to world champion, but he has to defeat Edwin Diaz to get there.

At first glance, one may wonder how Panama's Edwin Diaz (15-17, 5 KO's) earned a shot at a world championship with a sub-.500 record, but when you look deeper into the record of "La Pantera," you will see a determined southpaw who has bounced back from a series of ups and downs over the course of his 11-year career to go 7-1 in his last eight fights. The only setback during that stretch was a loss coming in a WBC Silver Flyweight title fight in 2011 against Wilbert Uicab. Currently sporting a three-fight winning streak, a title-capturing victory by Diaz on July 14 would make him one of boxing's great comeback stories.

At 22, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico's Janeth Perez (15-0-2, 4 KO's) is already a world champion and one of female boxing's top pound-for-pound fighters with amazing accomplishments to say the least. Unbeaten as a professional with only two draws on her record, Perez won the WBA title in July of 2011 with a seventh round technical knockout over Yolis Marrugo Franco. Now, a year later she has added two more victories to her ledger and on July 14, she will defend her belt for the second time.

Tokyo's Riyo Togo (8-2-1, 8 KO's) may be female boxing's hardest puncher, with all eight of her wins coming by knockout. After dominating the Japanese scene since her debut in 2004, the 36-year-old is eager to conquer the world, beginning with her July meeting in Mexico with unbeaten World Champion Janeth Perez.
