THE Philippine Memory Team brings its act to Bangkok as it competes in the 2012 Thailand Open Memory Championship on July 7 at the Kasetsat University in Bangkok, Thailand.
A silver medalist in the 20th World Memory Championship (WMC) that was held at the Mount River Resort Hotel in Guangzhou, China last December, the Philippine Memory Team tests the mettle of the world renowned memory athletes with Team Manager Aurelio de leon, Team skipper Roberto Racasa and Team Captain Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., a Philippine and United States chess master confident of their wards chances.
"I hope their experience in the World Championship will serve them well," said de Leon. "Its a great honor to represent the country in this tournament," said Bernardino, former top gunner of NCR-SCUAA multi-titlist Rizal Technological University Mandaluyong Chess Team.
"We have our trained memory so much so that we dared to compete in the world's most prestigious memory competition, the World Memory Championship," added Racasa, former top board player of PUP chess team. "And our goal joining such an event is to show to the world that Filipinos are at par with world's best minds when it comes to memory and to show that anyone can develop and train their memory and mental functioning in such a way that they will find success in any field, especially in this day and age," said Racasa.
De leon, Racasa and Bernardino head the team along with lone Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Mark Anthony Castaneda, 2010 UK Open silver medalist and 2011 World Memory Championship bronze medalist Johann Randall Abrina, Axelyancy Cowan Tabernilla, Shairmaine Dianquinay, Anne Bernadette Bonita, Cristine Barao, Ydda Habab, Princess Mendoza, Ian Roi Spencer Betiong, Blessy Mae Ayalde and Jamyla Lambunao.
