CONDES TAKES A BREAK FOR AN INTERVIEW PhilBoxing.com Wed, 18 Aug 2010 Former Minimumweight World Champion Florante Condes has been absent from the boxing scene for a little over a year now since his title eliminator loss to undefeated and eventual IBF Minimumweight Champion Nkosinathi Joyi of Eastern Cape, South Africa in the latter?s home turf. It seemed like he was to fade into oblivion until just last month we have heard of him again. ALA Promotions recently announced that the ex-World Champion Condes will return to the squared circle on the 28th day of August,2010 and pronounced that the boxer also known as the Little Pacquiao will be fighting the tough PABA Champion from Indonesia Sofyan Effendi on their mega-boxing card PHILIPPINES VS THE WORLD which is also presented by network giant ABS-CBN SPORTS. Boxing fans have been wondering what the reason was for Florante Condes long absence. Some of those questions would be answered now through ALA Promotions Public Relations man Chad Canares who was in contact recently with Team Condes via email and through handlers Larry and Loy Valencia. FLORANTE CONDES INTERVIEW 1.After a long lay-off, what made Florante Condes decide to come back to boxing? Form fighting to defend my title in Mexico, and my solitary fight with Joyi in Africa, I decided to get married, and thought of retiring quietly in Romblon. But when ALA, thru Mr. Nathanielsz offered this break, I grabbed this chance para makabalik at makalaban at makuha ko ulit ?ko ang dati kong world title. ? 2.Who is your manager now since you broke up with your former manager? Larry and Loy Valencia handle me from the very start. They are my relatives who are also from Romblon. I have stayed with them since came here in Manila to try my luck in boxing. I have been with many managers, but this time I decided that they can represent me which they have been doing from the start. After all I have gone through, pahinga muna ako sa manager. 3.What made you choose to fight under ALA PROMOTIONS? I have known ALA PROMOTIONS since I began my boxing career. But it seemed I will not fit in the prestige of the promotion. I am very proud that ALA took notice of me and gave me this chance. 4.Have you trained well for your fight on August 28, 2010? Where do you train and who is your trainer now? I have never stopped keeping fit even when I was in Romblon. But when ALA gave me this fight, I have been training so hard here at a gym in Cainta. They have a trainer there; I work out with boxers there every day. 5.Are you aware that you are fighting a tough opponent in Sofyan Effendi who is a PABA interim Champion? What is your prediction? I never predict. I just train hard and keep in mind that every opponent is a tough fighter to beat. What I will do is to do the best in the ring and win. 6.According to Sofyan Effendi, he will beat you to get into the world rating. What can you say about that? I will also say the same. Sa ring nalang namin patunayan yan. 7.What is your future plan after your fight on August 28, 2010? Now that I was given this chance?now that I am with the best promotion, ALA, I know I am back. I will not fail them who trusted me. I will not fail Mr. Nathanielsz who never loses his faith in me as a fighter. I pray that God will be with me as I prove again that I deserve to be considered a good boxer. Thank you Mr. Condes -PR (Photo above - Condes' last appearance in Cebu, winning against Ronelle Fererras, Dec 2008) |
