ABAPO HEADLINES 'RAMBOLAN SA TALIBON' ON DEC. 30

PhilBoxing.com

Reigning Philippine Super Lightweight champion and ALA boy Bart Abapo will see action once again this December 30, 2005 at the CPG Multi-Purpose Center, Talibon, Bohol. This explosive showdown will be a grudge rematch against challenger Rex Marzan of Cagayan de Oro.

Abapo and Marzan fought for the same title last March 5 of this year at Tagbilaran, Bohol wherein Abapo floored the Cagayan native at the 8th round after suffering a knockout earlier in the fight at the second bell. After taking the crown, Abapo made a successful stint in Korea after scoring a bloody technical decision against Korea’s Dong Geun Jang last July 2005. He then followed this with another fight abroad in a heartbreaking loss to former world contender Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai in Bangkok, Thailand.

Marzan, on the other hand, set his sights abroad though he failed by losing to Masato Arai last July 7, 2004 in Japan. He again fought and lost to Dondon Lapuz for the Philippine Lightweight title.

Slated as ‘RAMBOLAN SA TALIBON’, this boxing promotion is presented by SGG Sports Promotion by international promoter, Sammy ‘Don King’ Gello-ani in cooperation with the Local Government Unit of Talibon headed by Mayor Juanario Item of Talibon, Bohol.

The main card will be supported by a stellar cast of protagonists headed by RP No. 2 Light Flyweight Donnie Nietes against Roldan Malinao of Butuan City, Danny Bontilao against Roland Econas, Edwin Gastador against Ronald Postrano and Reman Salim against Phil Angcamor of the Kaamino Stable in Cagayan.

This will be Nietes first fight after suffering a cut on the right eyelid during a sparring session. Nietes, then, was slated to fight as an undercard in the OPBF Eliminator fight of Gorres-Pornobnum last October 29 at the Mandaue Sports Complex. SGG Stable’s Reman Salim will be fighting veteran Phil Angcamor after an unsuccessful stint in Mexico where he fought Miguel Roman for the WBC Youth Super Bantamweight title.

Opening the event will be newly minted boxers, Milan Milendo and Tagbilaran’s Tiny Tyson. Each will fight Rodel Emboy of Cagayan and Peter Paul Suico respectively. Before the 7 professional bouts, exciting amateur bouts will feature Talibon boxers versus Cebu and Tagbilaran boxers.
