BOOM-BOOM IN BOHOL TODAY; WBO EXEC ARRIVES
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 15 Nov 2005
Reigning World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific bantam boss Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista is set to arrive in Bohol today as he spends his last few days of training with his folks before he defends his title this Saturday against Tanzanian Obote Ameme in a 12-round scrap at the CPG Sports Complex in Tagbilaran.
Also today, WBO Asia Pacific co-chairman Leon Panoncillo jets into Cebu as he will personally supervise this Saturday's Bautista-Ameme card, dubbed as "Bakbakan sa Tagbilaran."
"I'm in perfect shape for the fight. I'm just waiting for the big day. He who flinches first, it will be lights out for him," said Bautista yesterday.
Bautista is arriving in Tagbilaran today on board his favorite fast-craft, Weesam, accompanied by manager Tony L. Aldeguer, trainer Edito 'Ala' Villamor, and stablemate Czar Amonsot.
The 20-year-old Tagbilaran native Amonsot is challenging WBO Asia Pacific super-featherweight champ Victor Mausol of Indonesia in the 12-round co-feature.
Yesterday, both Bautista and Amonsot did light workouts at the ALA Gym, and indicated they are well within their respective weight limits going into Friday's official weigh-in.
This Saturday's event, sponsored by Tanduay and PLDT, will also boast of top-notch sexy actresses Gwen Garci and Zara Lopez as roundcard girls, according to Ronnie Nathanielsz, who will cover the event for Main Event, which will be aired the following day at 1PM.
