FORMER professional boxer Criz Sander Laurente of General Santos City now wants to promote amateur boxing.
The 27-year-old Laurente, older brother of Criztian Pitt “Golden Boy” Laurente [15-0-0, 9KOs], has a 1-0-0, 1KO] record.
Laurente, who was a member of the Philippine National team, stopped due to a serious wrist injury in 2019.
“I fought once as a pro but I was injured,” said Laurente, who was awarded as the Best Asian Junior Boxer of the Year 2015.
He became the head coach of Spartans Boxing Club in Quezon City,
"But I decided to resign because I prefer freelance. I have more time to help my boxers," said Laurente.
He is now a boxing trainer and an event organizer in Manila.
Laurente personally planned to become an organizer “after seeing General Santos City amateur boxing is declining.”
“This is my way to show my support to revive the power house of boxing in the Philippines,” said Laurente, who is now the organizer of Golden Boy Boxing Competition.
Laurente is tentatively set to hold its first amateur boxing promotion on June 13 at Barangay Apopong in General Santos City.
The fighters are from Sikat Ka Apopo Team Laurente against Gensan fighters.
“The Gensan fighters are from Team Saludar of Polomolok, Team Ancajas of Koronadal City, Tupi, Lebak Sultan Kudarat, Tacurong and the amateur fighters from Sanman Boxing,” said Laurente.
