ORTIZ WANTS A REMATCH WITH VILORIA
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 19 Oct 2005
Still smarting from his embarrassing loss to Fil-American Brian Viloria, Mexican Eric Ortiz yesterday revealed that he is more than willing to face his conqueror once again to settle the issue as to who is the better fighter.
The 24-year-old Hawaii native Viloria had knocked out Ortiz in the first round of their September 10 showdown for the World Boxing Council light-flyweight crown.
Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran, in an interview with the Mexican press, has revealed his recent talks with Ortiz where he informed that latter of efforts being made to make the rematch possible sometime end of November or early December.
"I have returned to the gym and if Viloria gives me a rematch, I will be thankful, I will be more than ready," said the former champ Ortiz.
Beltran, however, told Ortiz that should the rematch not happen, another fighter will be tap to face Ortiz.
Earlier, the Mexico-based WBC, during its annual convention held in Spain, has ruled that Viloria should next face Filipino Juanito Rubillar.
Viloria, however, was reportedly quoted as saying he was not interested in facing a compatriot, but would accept the fight if all efforts to avert it have been exhausted.
