UNDEFEATED RV Deniega of General Santos City will fight former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro of Silay City on August 5 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
“It’s a big honor to be able to fight a world champion,” said Deniega in a Facebook.
The 40-year-old Jaro is a former World Boxing Council World flyweight champion in March 2012.
He is also a former WBC International Super Flyweight, IBF Pan Pacific Light Flyweight champion, Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation Light Flyweight and Asian Boxing Federation Asian Boxing Federation bantamweight champion.
Deniega, a southpaw, is now ready to fight Jaro.
“It’s a double training because my opponent is a former world champ,” said Deniega.
Deniega is still 127 pounds and will end his sparring on Monday.
His sparring mates are Alvin Camigue (4-0-0, 1KO), Vince Paras (16-2-1, 14KOs) and Kenny Demecillo (16-5-2, 10KOs).
Deniega will be accompanied in Manila by his coach Paul Apolinario and manager JC Manangquil.
“I still do not know when we will go to Manila,” said Deniega.
The Deniega-Jaro fight will be an undercard of a big comeback show by US-based promoter Aljoe Jaro of Jaro International Promotion.
