By Gabriel F. Cordero PhilBoxing.com Sat, 06 Sep 2025

German boxing trainer Michael Timm has died after losing his battle with cancer at the age of 63, and was recognized as one of the best boxing trainers in the history of German boxing.
Timm was born in Hagenow, Schwerin District, East Germany, on November 13, 1962.
Timm was an amateur boxer, winning three national championships in what was then East Germany and becoming European champion in 1985 in the super welterweight division.
He was the state coach of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and worked as a coach for the German Boxing Association (DBV) for many years, winning several medals in international tournaments.
He was the recognized coach of Universum Box-Promotion from 1997 to 2012 and assistant to the legendary Fritz Sdunek.
He was at the federal training center in Schwerin and later became the German national women's boxing coach.
Timm was in the corner of Jürgen Brähmer, Ina Menzer, Luan Krasniqi, Felix Sturm, Jurgen Brahmer, and Ruslan Chagaev, among others.
Known as "Timi," he impressed with his dedication and was incredibly ambitious. Every day he made the long commute from Schwerin to Hamburg and back. He wanted to be with his family in Schwerin. And Michael always arrived on time to train at the gym.
