Complete Weigh-in Report for WBO, WBC Fights Thursday at Mall of Asia, Manila

MANILA, Philippines -- All boxers successfully made weight for Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde's exciting "Night of Champions XIV" set for Thursday (Sep 20) at Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

In the main event, titlist Joe Marie Noynay (14-2-1, 4 KO's) of Bogo, Cebu, and challenger Zhang Quixiu (9-4-1, 3 KO's) of Dalian, China, both scaled at 130 lbs for their clash valid for the WBO Asia Pacific Youth Super Featherweight title (top photo). The fighters appeared focused, serious and in excellent shape during the official weight-in ceremony held at GAB head office and supervised by GAB officials Rafael Dyoknos and Tony Comia.

Joe Marie Noynay belongs to the Elorde Boxing Gym while Zhang Quixiu is handled by Chinese boxing manager Cui Di.

The officials for this WBO battle are referee Ferdinand Estrella of San Pedro, Laguna, Judges Gil Co of Caloocan, Gregorio "Greg" Ortega of Mandaluyong, Metro Manila and Alberto "Al" Llaneta of San Pedro Laguna.

For the co-feature, Al Toyogon (8-2-1, 5 KO's) of Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, will have his hands full when he battles tough Nathan Bolcio (14-14-3, 4 KO's) of the Highland Boxing Gym for the vacant WBC Super Featherweight Silver Title.

The 20 year-old Toyogon made 130 lbs while Bolcio, 28, marked one pound lighter at 129 lbs. Toyogon will fight out of the red corner and Bocio from the blue. The boxers will have the honor of having as their referee the legendary thirdman Bruce MacTavish of Angeles City, Pampanga, a man who has been recipient of the prestigious WBC Referee of the Year Award, three times.

EXCITING SUPPORTING FIGHTS

In women's boxing, Gian Dela Paz of the Cucuy Elorde Gym and warrior girl Fredelyn "Baby Love" Sayod (also an MMA fighter) of the LLS Boxing Stable both tipped the scales at 117 lbs for their 4-rounder battle that promises fireworks.

Moreover, 20 year-old Bienvenido "Ben" Ligas (6-1-1, 4 KO's) also from the Cucoy Elorde Stable made the limit of the bantamweight division 118 pounds while the well-trained Jessel Guardario (7-2-1, 3 KO's) of the ATA Gym made 119. Their hot battle is an 8-rounder rumble.

In addition, undefeated heavy-puncher Denmark Quibido (7-0, 5 KO's) of Tayug, Pangasinan tipped the official GAB scale at 115 lbs Jay-Ar Diama (7-15-7, 3 KO's) of the Art Monis' Hardstone Boxing Club came-in heavy. Still, their 8-chapter saga is a go.

In super flyweights, Gaudencio "Jun" Blazo (9-6-3, 7 KO's) of the Elorde Gym in Santa Rita, Sucat, and Jason Degelio (8-5, 3 KO's) of the Alchemist Gym both made the limit of the division 115 lbs. Their blow-by-blow affair is an 8-stanza collision.

What's more, the very serious Romel Oliveros (8-4-1, 3 KO's) of the Elorde Boxing Gym in Pasay City recorded 116 pounds, though Francis Gonzalez (2-5-1, 1 KO) of the Sports Academy in Camerines Sur came-in at 121 lbs. Their six-rounder duel was supposed to at 115 lbs.

In contrast, veteran fighters Canto and Borbon came in right on the spot. Well-traveled Roman Canto (12-11-3, 7 KO's) of the Team Insider Boxing Gym in Makati and journeyman Jomar Borbon (4-30-2, 2 KO's) of the LC Gym in Antipolo both made idential poundage of 136 lbs. Their clash is an six rounder ride of survival.

Boxers Sumalpong and Bayubay also made same weight. Hard-hitting 21 year-old Flyweight Ronel Sumalpong (5-1, 5 KO's) and unbeaten 18 year-old Zamboangue?o Joseph Bayubay (2-0, 1 KO) of the Alchemist Gym in Bulacan came in at 112 for their 6-stanza war.

Plus, unbeaten 24 year-old striker Ariel Puton (3-0, 3 KO's) of the Dante Almario Boxing Stable in Muntinlupa stepped-on at 129 lbs while 23 year-old Pablito Ca?ada (6-15-3, 1 KO) of the Ca?ada Brothers Gym made 130 pounds. Their clash in the super featherweight division is a thrilling six-rounder.

In another rumble, Franklin Mendoza (1-0, 0 KO's) of the Elorde Gym and Krisler Tenorio of the Detox Boxing Stable in Cabuyao, Laguna, both made 127 pounds for their 4-stanza skirmish.

ATA Boxing Stable fighter Eljun Salva (0-1, 0 KO's) tipped the scale at 116 lbs while debutant John Mark Tihuk wearing black trousers came-in two pounds lighter at 114 lbs. Their fighting appointment is a four-episode action novel sure to thrill boxing fans in attendance.

In the first bout of Night of Champions XIV, tough Gringo Navarro (1-1-1, 1 KO) of the Elorde Gym will clash in a scheduled four round battle against 19 year-old Alex Isidro (0-2, 0 KO's) of the Triple R Boxing Gym. Navarro and Isidro both made 109 pounds.

The boxing event at Mall of Asia's Music Hall is a production of popular well-known Filipino promoter Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde, winner of this year's WBC Asia Honorary Promoter of the Year Award.
