THE PAST WEEK IN ACTION 31 August 2025 By Eric Armit PhilBoxing.com Mon, 01 Sep 2025 ![]() Japanese Toshihiko Era still fighting strong at age 50. HIGHLIGHTS: -Elif Nur Turhan wins the vacant interim WBA super featherweight title and super middleweight Kevin Lelke Sadjo improves to 26-0 as he beats Martin Bulacio -Rated lightweight Albert Bell goes to 28-0 with a points victory over Keith Hunter -Toshihiko Era, 50, retains the World Boxing Foundation Asia Pacific and Asian Boxing Federation flyweight titles with first round kayo of Pradish Anbuchezhian. -Yoel Peralta and Alan Cantero win in Argentinian title fights -Thai-based Italian Alessio Bisutti outpoints Thai Choomphoophuang to win the UBO and IBF Asian heavyweight titles. MAJOR SHOWS: NONE AUGUST 28 ENGHIEN, FRANCE: SUPER MIDDLE: KEVIN LELE SADJO (26-0) W RTD 4 MARTIN BULACIO (14-10). SUPER FEATHYER: ELIF NUR TURHAN (11-0) W TKO 6 RIMA AYADI (11-1). Sadjo vs. Bulacio SADJO demolishes BULACIO in four rounds. Sadjo was walking forward getting past Bulacio’s guard and grinding him down with body puncher. Bulacio moved and jabbed but could not keep Sadjo out. By the fourth he had nothing left and was soaking up some vicious left and right hooks to the body and did not come out for the fifth round. The Cameroon-born Frenchman has won 23 of his 26 fights by KO/TKO but has been unable to land any of the big fights that would have him in a mandatory position. He has Diego Pacheco in his sights but a great contest would be against fellow Cameroon-born Frenchman Christian Mbilli. Turhan vs. Ayadi In a clash of unbeaten fighters ELIF NUR TURHAN wins the vacant WBA interim title with a sixth round stoppage of France’s RIME AYADI. There was nothing pretty about Turhan’s tactics. She drove forward throwing punches with more enthusiasm than accuracy. The sheer ferocity of her attacks stifled Ayadi’s counters and after Turhan was deducted a point in the sixth a thunderous straight right floored Ayadi. She beat the count but was reeling under Turhan’s onslaught and the referee stopped the fight. Turhan, a former WBC International and WBA Gold title holder, had shown her power in stopping Ireland’s unbeaten Shauna Brown in 47 seconds in March. Ayadi is a former European and WBA Gold titlist. BANGKOK, THAILAND: FLY: TOSHIHIKO ERA (27-4-1) W KO 1 PRADISH ANBUCHEZHIAN (8-3-1). ERA continues his remarkable career as he stops India’s ANBUCHEZHIAN after just 34 seconds of the first round to retain his World Boxing Foundation and Asian Boxing Federation flyweight titles. Anbuchezhian threw a couple of jabs but as he moved in he lowered his right to throw a hook but a straight right to the head from Era arrived first and Anbuchezhian dropped to a knee and was counted out. He was holding his body at the belt line and was bent double when he got up after the count for a one punch to the head finish! Win No 22 by KO/TKO for Era and he needed a win after a loss and a technical draw in his last two fights. Now 50, Era had his first professional fight in 1994 but due to a number of problems was out of the ring for almost eleven years from 1996 to 2016 (see Observations). Anbuchezhian had won 6 of his last 7 fights but those seven opponents had combined records of 4-3! AUGUST 29 KAZAN, RUSSIA: HEAVY: UMAR SALAMOV (31-2) W KO 1 DMITRY IVANOV (11-3-1). Quick night for Kyrgyzstan’s Salamov as he knocks out substitute Ivanov in the first round. Salamov lost to Dmitrii Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight in 2021. This is his fifth win since the and title challenge. Ivanov, 42, was 3-1 in fights last year. No weights given but Salamov was 204 lbs in a win in February and in Ivanov was 277 in his last fight in August last year. AUGUST 30 BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: SUPER FEATHER: NERI ROMERO (19-1) W PTS 10 ALEXIS CAMEJO (10-5-2). SUPER BANTAM: ALAN CANTERO (10-1-1) W KO 3 SERGIO ROSALEZ (10-6). SUPER WELTER: YOEL PERALTA (14-1-2) W PTS 10 WALTER CORDOBA (11-3) . Romero vs. Camejo ROMERO wins the vacant WBA Fedelatin title with a unanimous decision over CAMEJO. Romero boxed well outworking and outscoring Camejo with quick accurate punches. Camejo tried to put Romero under pressure but a right from Romero opened a deep cut over Camejo’s left eye and only excellent work from his corner kept him in the fight as Romero won on scores of 98-92 on all three cards. Romero was floored and outpointed in Russia by Albert Batyrtgaziev in March for the IBA Pro and WBA interim titles. Camejo an unrated prelim fighter. Cantero vs. Rosalez CANTERO retains the national title with a third round kayo of ROSALEZ. This was an easy night for Cantero. He dropped Rosalez twice in the second round and twice in the third. On the last knockdown Rosalez went down awkwardly and injured his right leg and was unable to beat the count. Second defence of the title for Cantero and his sixth victory by KO/TKO. He lost his first pro fight but reversed that defeat and is undefeated in his last 11 fights. Rosalez is 2-4 in his last 6 fights. Peralta vs. Cordoba A wild scrap sees PERALTA win the vacant national title with a pints victory over CORDOBA. It was almost all over in the second when Peralta floored Cordoba twice. He survived but was down again in the seventh and deducted a point in the same round. Peralta lost a point in the tenth. Peralta is unbeaten in his last 15 fights. (Scores are given as 94-91 twice and 93-92 for Peralta but I can’t make any sense out of that as he floored Cordoba three times and only lost one point on a deduction). BANGKOK, THAILAND: ALESSIO BISUTTI (14-1) W PTS 12 PANYA CHOOMPHOOPHUANG (23-16-1). SUPER WELTER: USMAN WAZEER (17-0) W KO 10 STEVIE FERDINANDUS (36-19-1). ![]() Bisutti (R) and Choomphoophuang (L) during the weighin on Aug. 29 in Bangkok. Bisutti vs. Choomphoophuang BISUTTI wins the vacant UBO title with a unanimous decision over CHOOMPHOOPHUANG. Some confusion in this fight as it was also said to be for the IBF Asia title, Thai Choomphoophuang came in as a late replacement for Ghanaian John Napuri and an extra two rounds were added making it twelve round fight. Choomphoophuang, at 205 lbs. was giving away 39 lbs to the 48-year-old Bisutti, but made a good start taking the first two rounds only for Bisutti to win the third and fourth. After that a slow fight became slower as both fighters already showed signs of tiredness. Choomphoophuang lost a point for holding in the eighth and the extra weight of Bisutti came into play. The smaller Choomphoophuang was exhausted and Bisutti won the two extra round to win the decision on scores of 114-113 twice and 118-109 so without the point deduction in the eighth it would have ended as a majority draw. Bisutti has done all of his fighting in Thailand and has collected eight (minor)titles. Choomphoophuang fought for the Pan Asian Boxing Association super middle weight belt in 2014 so has put on 38 lbs since then. Wazeer vs. Ferdinandus Unbeaten Pakistani WAZEER scores a tenth round kayo over experienced Indonesian southpaw FERDINANDUS to win the OPBF Silver title. Twelfth inside the distance for Wazeer. Ferdinandus, 44, was 9-1 in his last 10 fights. He has been fighting as a pro for 16 years. TOLEDO, OH, USA: LIGHT ALBERT BELL (28-0) W PTS 10 KEITH HUNTER (16-3). HEAVY: DEVIN VARGAS (23-11) W RTD 2 SANTANDER SILGADO (33-22). SUPER FEATHER: DERRICK MURRAY (20-11-1) W PTS 8 TYLER MCCREARY ( 19-3-1) . Bell vs. Hunter BELL continues unbeaten as he wins every round against HUNTER. Bell dominated the action all the way. He had too much skill and speed for a modest Hunter. He easily dealt with Hnuter’s attempts to apply pressure but never really had Hunter in any serious trouble winning 100-90 on the judge’s cards to pick up the vacant IBF International and NABA titles. If there is a downside to Bell it is his lack of power and the absence of any big names in his list of victims. That is reflected in his relatively modest IBF No 8 and WBO 11 ratings. This was only Hunter’s second fight in 20 months. Vargas vs. Silgado In what he said would be his last fight VARGAS beat Colombian SILGADO on a second round retirement. Vargas was down in the first but dropped Silgado twice in the second with Silgado not coming out for the third. Vargas, 43, was National Golden Gloves and US National champion and represented the USA at the 2004 Olympics but failed to medal. Silgado, 40, has now lost 8 of his last 9 fights. Murray vs. McCreary A mild upset sees MURRAY win a majority decision over local favourite McCREARY. Murray made the better start and held off a strong second half effort from McCreary to win on scores of 78-74 and 77-76 with the other judge seeing it 76-76. Murray gets his fourth win in a row and McCreary his third loss in a row. OBSERVATIONS : Japanese fighter Toshihiko Era had his first pro fight in September 1994. Before his fourth fight in January 1996 his left side became paralysed. He was given a pain killing injection before the fight which he won. After the fight he then suffered severe sciatica and a hernia and had such agony walking that he retired. After two years of rehabilitation he tried to return to boxing but was unable to get medical clearance. In 2012 at the age of 37, he had recovered enough to try again but was barred by his age. He moved to Thailand and engaged in some exhibition matches . He was issued with a Thai licence in 2016 and had his first professional fight for twenty-one years and had his first fight back in Japan in 2018. He was issued with a boxing licence in Japan in 2024 and at 49 became the oldest fighter in Japan. He has won 13 titles.
