FARENAS BEING GROOMED TO FACE LARIOS
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 26 Nov 2007

Top-ranked Philippine featherweight Michael Farenas has stepped out to announce that he is interested in fighting former world champion Oscar Larios sometime in February.
Larios, the Mexican fighter who has gained acclaim and popularity in the Philippines after his gallant stand against Manny Pacquiao, is being groomed to see action in the undercard of Gerry Penalosa's next fight in February.
Golden Boy Promotions is reportedly planning to promote Penalosa's next fight in the Philippines, said SGG Promotions' Sammy Gello-ani, who has tied up with Oscar De la Hoya's boxing outfit.
"I would like to ask Eric Gomez (GBP vice-president) to put Farenas against Larios," Penalosa told this writer the other day.
The Gubat, Sorsogon Province native, who is being managed by Penalosa and Japanese Kosuke Washio, parades a 18-2-2, 16 KO's record and is coming off a second-round technical knockout over Arturo Valenzuela at the Mandalay Bay last October 6.
Larios, who was recently in the Philippines to attend the 45th WBC Annual Convention, has indicated he wants to fight once again in the Philippines.
"He told me he wants one more fight in the Philippines. We plan to put him in the undercard of Gerry's next fight," Gello-ani stressed.
