CEBU, Philippines -- Omega Boxing Gym, one of the most prolific boxing stables in the Visayas, staged a weigh-in and media press conference for "Double Rumble," of their latest boxing production to take center stage Saturday (Aug 18) at Mandaue City Sports Complex, featuring two regional tile fights with one of their star boxers Christian Araneta (15-0, 13 KO's) battling tough Jerry Tomogdan (25-9-4, 3 KO's) for the WBC Asia Silver Belt. The card also boasts of French boxer Jaber Zayani (14-0, 8 KO's) of Saint-Martin-d'H?res in Is?re, France, having his hands full against Filipino opponent Eduardo Mancito (16-8-2, 9 KO's), with five more non-title combats completing an unforgettable, thrilling evening of boxing that no fan in Cebu and Mandaue can afford to miss. Zayani and Mancito read to lock horns. In a supporting non-title 10-rounder, Jobert "Little Pacman" Alvarez (17-2-2, 7 KO's) of General Santos City targets Gerpaul Valero (22-21-4, 16 KO's) of Mandaue; and Kawelo Alcos (1-0, 1 KO) born in Hawaii, U.S.A. deals with pro boxing debutant Patrick Dakay of Cebu. Also, Omega fighter Pociano Remandiman (7-4-1, 3 KO's) of Leyte got 115.7 lbs engages Adrian Lerasan (6-1, 1 KO) of Antipolo City, Rizal; and unbeaten puncher Marjon "The Journey" Piencenaves (5-0-1, 4 KO's) of Butuan collides against 20 year-old local Mandaue fighter Jeffrey Stella (4-5-2, 4 KO's). Plus, Cebuano Omega newcomer Carlo Bacaro (1-0, 1 KO) climbs the ring to face Matthew Fondales of the Rex Wakee Salud Stable. Further to the a official Weigh-in ceremony, a media press conference entertained questions from the media in attendance with some interesting quotes said. During the question and answer period, promoter Kenneth Rontal of Cagayan de Oro in attendance thanked WBO Vice President Leon Panoncillo and WBO President Paco Varcarcel of Puerto Rico for the opportunity that his boxers have had to fight world titles. Brothers Vic and Froilan Saludar challenged for WBO belts, with Vic winning the coveted brown/golden belt. Omega's Jerome Calatrava and CBD's Kenneth Rontal. Rontal added that there has been a two year partnership between Omega Boxing Promotions and CBD, which include boxing shows in Naga and also in Manolo Fortich Bukidnon. Del Mar wished all boxers good luck in tomorrow event. Also, Atty Ramil Abing commented: "On behalf of Cebu Provincial government, I can say that this (card) is good for our athletes and good for boxing in Cebu. This will be a world-class fight and we are more than elated to have this tournament in Mandaue. Good luck to all the boxers tomorrow." WBO Vice President Leon Panoncillo in his turn at the mike said: "On behalf of the World Boxing Organization we always look forward on helping up-and-coming fighters like (the ones fighting) tomorrow. WBO and WBC regional titles give the opportunity to boxers to have the chance to become world champions, just like Vic Saludar did." WBC Asia Secretary Col. Damrong said: "On behalf of the World Boxing Counci (WBC), we would like to say congratulations to Omega Boxing promotions for promoting this big event. "It will be a championship fight and I think this is a big event for this city and hope to see you all tomorrow, and thanks to the government of Cebu for supporting boxing." GAB Commissioner Eduard Trinidad in attendance thanked Omega Boxing on behalf of GAB Chairman Baham Mitra, and wished good luck and congratulations in advance to the boxers on behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte. French boxer Jaber Zayani battling Filipino Eduardo Mancito for the WBO Oriental belt very politely said: "I thank you for receiving me in Cebu good like this. I like Filipino boxing. I like about the great fight of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier here in the Philippines. I like about Manny Pacquiao. I want to be a world champion. I fight for my family, my wife and my team and me. I have heard that Mancito is a good fighter. That is good to know. Thank you and I see all of you tomorrow." Also present during the weigh-in were Filipino reigning world titlist boxers WBA Interim Featherweight Champion Jhack Tepora (22-0, 17 KO's) of the Omega Boxing Gym, and WBO World Champion Vic Saludar (18-3, 10 KO's). Saludar was with his promoter, the very active man of boxing Kenneth Rontal of CBD Boxing Promotions. Tickets prices for Saturday's boxing show are so reasonable for the quality of boxing action: Ringside seats: 100 Filipino Pesos and General admission 50 Filipino Pesos. Supervisor for the Filipino government (GAB) are Mrs. Arlene M. Olondriz, Rolando Mendoza and Glenn S. Agena. Ringside doctors will be Dr. Jose Unabia and Dr. Rene Bonsubre. The exciting boxing show billed as "Double Rumble" tomorrow Saturday (Aug 18) at Mandaue City Sports Complex is an production of Omega Boxing promoters Pio Castillo and Jerome Calatrava. Calatrava - a former top-notch radio DJ before switching to promote boxing - pitched-in as Master of Ceremonies during today's weigh-in.
