DUTERTE SUPPORTS PINOL; WANTS KOREAN DEPORTED PhilBoxing.com Sun, 18 Nov 2007 The arrogant South Korean golfer who was whacked by North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Pinol with a golf putter after the foreigner shouted at and insulted a Filipino player at the Davao City Golf Club Nov. 9 is in for bigger trouble. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte yesterday declared his support for Davao City golfer Gary Santiago and Vice Governor Manny Pinol and said he wants the rude South Korean, Young Youn Yun, kicked out of Davao City and deported to South Korea. "No foreigner has the right to insult a Filipino in his own country," Duterte declared. His staff confirmed that the City Mayor has already called up the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation to ask for the conduct of summary deportation proceedings against South Korean national Young Youn Hyeon. Young figured in a golf club whacking incident Nov. 9 after he reportedly struck a golf ball towards Filipino golfer Gary Santiago whom he accused of playing slow at the Davao City Golf Club. The Korean also angrily shouted at Santiago. When confronted by Santiago in front of several people that included Vice Governor Pinol, the South Korean arrogantly shouted at the Filipino golfer and later vented his ire on Pinol when he was reminded not to shout at Filipinos. "Do not shout. You have no right to shout at Filipinos. You are just a visitor in this country. You are not in South Korea," Vice Governor Pinol told the Korean who responded angrily to Pinol's admonition. Pinol, who is known for his tough stance against rebel groups and for standing his ground on things he believes in, decided to confront the South Korean. Following a heated exchange of words, Vice Gov. Pinol whacked Hyeon with a golf putter while other Filipinos who were around pushed the Korean to the ground. Young has reportedly filed charges against Pinol and Santiago but the North Cotabato Vice Gov. was unfazed. "If there is anything I regret about the whole incident, it is that I did not hit that Korean hard enough." Pinol's lawyer, Luwill Al-ag of Davao City has prepared the affidavits of witnesses which will support the petition for deportation to be filed by the Vice Governor against the South Korean. Pinol personally met in Manila Thursday with Bureau of Immigration and Deportation Commissioner Marcelo Libanan to file the petition for deportation. The deportation hearing is expected to start this week. |
