DANNY GREEN CLAIMS FOURTH WORLD TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

MELBOURNE -- Danny ?The Green Machine? Green (33-5, 28 KO?s) is now a Four Time World Champion as he defeated a durable Shane ?The Mountain Warrior? Cameron (29-3, 22 KO?s) and claimed the vacant IBO World Cruiserweight Title at Hisense Arena in Melbourne, Australia on Wednesday November 21.

Green came out very aggressive in round 1 which seemed to surprise Cameron who likely had expected him to come out with the strategy to run him around the ring.

Cameron landed a good body blow on Green in the opening stanza. Green revealed after the fight that Cameron had broken his ribs from the body shot in the first round.

Cameron was cut in round 2 as Green started to close the distance down to avoid the power Cameron possesses. The strategy worked as Cameron was unable to get his jab working and Green started to rack up the points.

In round 7, Cameron landed a stiff jab that had the mouth-guard of Green?s flying 3 rows back as the fight continued for around 50 seconds until the referee put the mouth-guard in back in.

Green continued to close the distance in each round which frustrated Cameron who knew with 3 rounds remaining he had to stop Danny Green if he was going to win his first world title.

At times during the final three rounds, it looked as if Green would send Cameron to the canvas. In round 11, Green hurt Cameron and looked like he was on his way down, but Green wrestled Cameron down as he tried to tie him up.

Cameron recovered but was unable to land any significant blow to Green in the final round. No one at Hisense Arena or at home watching would have doubted that 39-year-old Green was well ahead on all three scorecards at the end of the fight.

In the end scores were 119-109, 116-112 & 116-113 all for the new IBO World Cruiserweight Champion, Danny Green.

"Do you know how hard that was? Australia I love all of you so much," Green said

Green praised his sparring partners who helped him with his preparation for this fight with Cameron

?If I knew I needed to work inside I could work inside and I out muscled a much bigger man?

?I?m so happy and very very proud to have won.?

"I really do carry on and I'm a bit embarrassed. But I'm just so happy, I've been through some tough times and I've been knocked out,? Green said

"My brother ?BG? (Brendan Green) flew in and gave me such great strength and then my wife and kids flew in, to win in such a sport loving town means so much to me."

As expected, Green was asked if he planned to retire after this victory.

?I?m going to be an Aussie and get on the cans with the boys,? Green said.

With this victory Green becomes the first Australian born boxer to win four world titles.

Cameron said Green?s tactics to constantly tie him up in clinches was frustrating.

"There was a lot of clinching, a lot of hitting on the back of the head, I was surprised the ref didn't pick it up, but hey, that's his job and my job is to try and do what I can in the ring" Cameron said

Cameron is unsure if his future remains at Cruiserweight.

"I'm not sure, I'll just have a break and assess everything and see which division I take on next, it certainly won't be lighter"

"The hunger's still there but I'm not thinking about it to be honest,? Cameron said.

Green says Cameron should keep his chin up following the result.

"He showed his heart, he showed his class, he showed his toughness, he should take heart in knowing that he got out classed and out muscled, and I jumped on him, and I shocked him. But that's the game of boxing, and let's see whether he's got the championship calibre to come back, and I believe he has." Green said.

In the Co-Main Event, ?Wild? Will Tomlinson successfully retained his IBO Super Featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Panama?s Irving Berry.

Scores after 12 rounds were 120-105, 117-108 and 119-106 all for Tomlinson.

?He was a real awkward dude and very slippery,? Tomlinson said.

?We thought we had a game plan to stop that but it was a scrappy fight and I apologise.

?We?ll head off overseas next year. I?m going to enjoy a few cold beers open Christmas first, but I want to fight the best and bring the best fighters to Melbourne? Tomlinson said

In other action Brad Pitt was hurt in rounds 1 and 2, but came back strong to score an explosive TKO win in round 3 over Mosese Sorovi.

Jeremy Van Diemen was dominant in stopping Lyndon Edney in round 3 of Light Heavyweight contest with Edney?s corner forced to throw in the towel.

Brandon Ogilvie recored a majority decision over Anthony Taylor, scores were 57-5, 59-57, 59-57.

Jake Carr scored a second round TKO victory over Dinesh Kanth and Bashir Sadiq had a win in his debut fight against Mark Galea in the opening fight of the evening.
