PAGARA, SERVANIA, JACA HEADLINE 'PINOY PRIDE XV'

PhilBoxing.com

Cebu City ? Comebacking Jason 'El Ni?o' Pagara, rising superbantam Genesis 'Azukal' Servania and erstwhile title contender Jimrex Jaca will headline 'PINOY PRIDE XV' on August 18 at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino, ALA Promotions has announced during the presscon held at the City Sports Club Cebu at noon today.

Pagara (28-2-0, 17KO), the promising 21-year-old super lightweight of the ALA stable, remains bothered by his loss at the hands of Mexican Rosbel Montaya on September 10 last year, so much so that he had asked and persuaded the ALA Management to arrange him a rematch against his tormentor, who inflicted the second defeat of his 28 fights thus far.

?We give him this chance ? for him to prove himself,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said. ?We told our boxers that sometimes you only have one chance in your career,? added Aldeguer.

For Pagara, this could be it.

In a forgettable performance, Pagara was outboxed and outpunched by Montoya that September evening at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu and lost by decision ending a 15-win run capped with 10 stoppages. ?Pagara lacked focus during that fight... because of personal a problem,? Pagara's trainer Edito Villamor confided.

For Pagara, who demolished Frank Yarangga of Indonesia in the second round in his comeback fight last March in Bohol, there are no ifs or buts this time around if he could not get past the Mexican. A win for Pagara however could potentially be his breakout party as he is headlining a 'Pinoy Pride' event for the first time.

Meanwhile, Montoya fought three times after beating Pagara, winning two but lost his last fight by knockout against Claudio Alfredo Olmedo of Argentina last March 24 for the WBO Interim Latino light welterweight title in Buenos Aires.

The 20-year-old Genesis Servania (18-0-0, 6KO), was put into the line of fire during his last several fights facing veteran Mexican campaigners Gerson Guerrero and Genaro Garcia, among others, and came out of it with flying colors when he dominated Guerrero for a lopsided win and stopped Garcia in the 12th round during his last outing at the Resorts World in Manila last June 2.

For his next assignment on Aug. 18, Servania faces Jorge Pazos (20-3-0, 13KO) of Mexico City for the WBO Asia-Pacific super bantam title which aims to introduce the Bacolod tactician to the TV viewing public. ?If Servania does well in this fight, we have major fights lined up for him and we will be bringing the big names here to fight him,? Aldeguer said.

29-year-old Jimrex Jaca (34-6-3, 19KO) whose sole claim to fame was when he fought a gallant fight against legendary Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez in Hidalgo, Texas in 2006, tries to make a last major push of his career when he signed with ALA Promotions recently. Jaca will face Angel Martinez (13-2-1, 9KO) of Mexico City in a 10-round non-title fight.

OTHER FIGHTS:

Rising undefeated prospect Prince Albert Pagara (11-0-0, 9KO), younger brother of Jason, returns to the ring against Alvin Makiling of Bukidnon. Mark Vincent Bernaldez takes on Joash Apericio; Jurn Labordo faces Powell Balaba; JP Artieda takes on Hector Rojoca and crowd favorite Jojo 'Flash' Intor will try to regale the boxing crowd again when he exchange leathers with Peter Aldrin.

Ticket prices are tagged at P3,000, P2,000, P1,500 and P1,250 for ringside seats; P500 and P350 for ballroom seats and P250 for balcony seats.
