GESTA SHOWS NO MERCY, STOPS TRAZANCOS IN THREE ROUNDS

PhilBoxing.com

Promising Filipino southpaw Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta lived up to his monicker as he ripped into Mexican Genaro Trazancos before the referee mercifully stopped the bout at the end of the third round at the Longshoreman's Hall in San Francisco, Friday night.

With the win the undefeated Gesta who is ranked No. 12 in the lightweight division by the WBO improved his record to 21-0-1 with 11 knockouts while Trazancos dropped to 22-14-1 with 13 knockouts.

Gesta who visited his parents Anecito and Mercedes last Christmas for the first time in four years began training for a fight against Mexican journeyman Hector Velasquez who some years ago fought pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao. But Velasquez pulled out and Trazancos stepped in as a replacement.

It was obvious that Gesta who came in at the light welterweight limit of 140 pounds and had won by a 7th round TKO the last time they met on August 20, 2010 was far too good for the hapless Trazancos, staggering him several times in the opening round.

A vicious left uppercut and a flurry of punches in round three almost sent the Mexican to the canvas but he hung on to end the round despite receiving a brutal beating.

Gesta appeared to ease off against Trazancos who was lined up merely to keep Gesta busy but on the ring doctor's advice the one-sided mismatch was called off in between rounds three and four.

Gesta had trained at the Wild Card Gym of celebrated trainer Freddie Roach who merely provided some inputs to trainer and co-manager Vince Parra.

Gesta was coming off a 2nd round TKO over veteran Ivan Valle, a veteran of 41 fights with 29 wins last October 12 at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in San Diego while Trazancos in his last fight on October 22 lost by an 8th round TKO to Jesus Pabon in an interim WBO Latino welterweight title bout.

However, the referee took a look at Trazancos at the end of the round and ruled that he was unfit to continue giving the latest Filipino sensation another rousing victory.
