MEXICANS WHO LOST TO BRIAN VILORIA FIGHTING FOR WBC WORLD TITLE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 03 Feb 2011 Two Mexicans who both lost by knockouts to Filipino boxers will face each other in a WBC light flyweight world title showdown in Merida, Mexico on February 26. Champion Gilberto Keb Baas who is the hometown boy with an unimpressive record of 34 wins against 20 losses and 4 draws with 21 knockouts will put his title on the line against former world champion Jose Antonio ?El Jaguar? Aguirre who is ranked No. 8 by the WBC in an optional title defense. Aguirre has a record of 35-9-1 with 21 knockouts.. Keb Baas won the title with a majority decision over Omar Nino Romero last November 6, 2010 after dropping the former champion in the first and eighth rounds. Romero had earlier won the title with a unanimous twelve round decision over Rodel Mayol on June 19, 2010 who in turn had won the title from the accomplished Edgar Sosa via a controversial 2nd round TKO. However, Keb Baas had been knocked out in the 11th round by former WBC and IBF world champion Brian Viloria who has moved up in weight and is now campaigning in the flyweight division. The 35 year old Aguirre had beaten Keb Baas by a 7th round TKO on February 22, 2003 in a WBC minimum weight title defense making their upcoming bout a battle for revenge on the part of Keb Baas. Aguirre won the light flyweight title with a twelve round majority decision over Wandee Singwancha who has been stopped by Filipino fighters ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona and Sylvester Lopez in the past. Aguirre lost a twelve round unanimous decision to then WBC light flyweight champion Viloria on February 18, 2006 after earlier losing his title to Eric Ortiz on March 11, 2005. Ortiz is the same fighter who lost his title when he was knocked out in the first round by Viloria on September 10, 2005. Aguirre apparently earned the title shot against Ken Baas following a 5th round knockout of comparatively inexperienced Javier Romano on August 14, 2010.
