CHAVEZ JR IS SICK: FATE OF FIGHT DECIDED TODAY By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 30 Nov 2010 The fate of Julio Cesar Chave Jr?s fight against Pawel Wolak of Poland scheduled for Sunday, Manila Time, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California will be decided today (Tuesday) according to Chavez? strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza. Chavez Jr is scheduled to defend his WBC silver middleweight title which he won by an impressive twelve round decision against John Duddy last June 26. Ariza told the Inquirer that Chavez Jr (41-0-1, 30 KO?s) ?has a fever which obviously indicates some kind of infection but I don?t know whether it's bacterial or viral.? He said it was ?too close to the fight? to be able to take any medication that may show up in the urine and create problems. The strength and conditioning coach who works alongside trainer Freddie Roach said Chavez Jr had been ill for a few days but ?feels stronger and better? and after a sparring session tomorrow (Monday in LA) a decision will be made on whether to go ahead with the fight against Wolak (27-1, 17 KO?s) who is a substitute for Alfonso Gomez who pulled out with an injury. Top Rank indicated that the Chavez Jr-Wolak fight will push through although the ?Son of the Legend? Julio Cesar Chavez himself had said he was withdrawing due to a severe flu-like illness that had hampered his training. Ariza said there was no point in taking any risks if Chavez Jr was not in condition to fight. The fight card is of particular interest to Filipino fight fans as Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire ( 24-1, 16 KO?s) who is ranked No. 4 behind Manny Pacquiao in Ring Magazine?s pound-for-pound list battles Ukraine?s ?Raging Bull? Volodymyr ?Wladimir? Sidorenko (22-2-2, 7 KO?s) for the vacant WBA bantamweight interim title. Donaire is coming off an 8th round TKO over highly touted Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez in San Juan, Puerto Rico last July 10 while Sidorenko, the former WBA bantamweight champion who had six successful title defenses last fought on August 28 this year when he won the vacant WBC silver super flyweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over southpaw Mbwana Matumla, the ?African Golden Boy.? The Top RankPromotions fight card to be telecast by ABS-CBN will also feature the WBC lightweight title fight between champion Humberto Soto ((53-7-2, 32 KO?s), a one time candidate to fight Pacquiao and Pacquiao sparring partner Urbano Antillon (28-1, 20 KO?s) who helped the ?Fighter of the Decade? prepare for his WBO welterweight battle with Miguel Cotto.
