NONGQAYI-ROSAS NEARLY BRAWL AT PRESS CON

PhilBoxing.com

IBF super flyweight champion Simphiwe Nongqayi and Mexican challenger Alberto ?Topo? Rosas nearly engaged in a brawl at the final press conference prior to their world title fight at the Palenque de la Feria of Tepic, Nayarit on Sunday, Manila Time.

Boxing writer Rafael Soto informed us that Rosas grew tired of hearing threats from the champion Nongqayi and challenged him in front of the media.

The South African Nongqayi immediately dropped his microphone and went for Rosas, but people from both camps got between them and things soon calmed down despite the shouts and threats.

The undefeated "Golden Master" Nongqayi (16-0-1, 6 KO?s) will defend his IBF super flyweight title against local here Rosas (31-5, 25 KOs) in the picturesque province of Nayarit.

In another international fight on the card popular and triple world champion Jorge "Travieso" Arce faces former universal champion Martin "Gallito" Castillo in a ten round bantamweight bout.

"Summer of Champions" is promoted by Zanfer Promotions and the Government of the State of Nayarit and is part of the series "Top Rank Live" and will be broadcast in the United States by Fox Sports Espanol and in Mexico by TV Azteca in "Box Azteca "the house of boxing.

As the champion taunted him Rosas said "I hope you come in good physical condition because you'll just want to run, you've messed with the most sacred thing and that's my family. I'll give you the beating of your life. You say age does not count but you are going to see that it counts a lot."

Nongqayi bragged "I can knock him out in any round that I want, even in the first round, but I want to beat him up to work towards it. I trained very well so I do not think this kid can really hold onto experience and my age won't matter. This is why they will not recognize Rosas after the fight at home."

Nongqayi won the title with a unanimous twelve round decision over Jorge ?Travieso? Arce on September 15, 2009 in Mexico and then retained the title with a majority draw against Malik Bouziane of France on April 9, 2010.

Rosas who is nicknamed ?The Monster? won a title eliminator against Federico Catubay of the Philippines who is pretty much a washed up fighter but somehow managed to get a second shot in a title eliminator back-to-back which he lost to Rodrigo Guerrero on July 24.
