ELORDE AWARDS ON IBC 13 TONIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 09 Apr 2010 The 10th Annual Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde Awards ?Banquet of Champions? Part I will be telecast at 8:30 p.m. today on ?The Main Event? program of Viva Sports over IBC 13. Part II will be telecast at the same time on Monday. Regarded as the finest so far in the history of the awards night in honor of the late, great ?Flash? Elorde who reigned as world junior lightweight champion for almost seven-and-a-half years, the Annual Awards was graced by the presence of pound-for-pound king and ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao and his lovely wife Jinkee. Also present at the Harbour Tent of the Sofitel Hotel by the bay on Roxas Boulevard was congressman and senatorial candidate Ferdinand ?Bongbong? Marcos and his charming wife Liza and their three handsome sons. A riveting documentary on ?Flash? Elorde including brief excerpts of some of his memorable fights which will be incorporated in a forthcoming DVD being produced by Viva Sports and an exciting visual introduction to guest speaker Manny Pacquiao were part of the highlights of the awards which was given an emotional dimension by the presence of Z ?The Dream? G ores. Gorres is recovering from brain surgery he underwent after a rousing ten round unanimous decision over rugged Colombian Luis Melendez last November at the Mandalay Bay House of Blues. Gorres collapsed in his corner after the decision was announced and was rushed to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas where he underwent surgery but after being effectively in a coma for one month, Gorres has made a near miraculous recovery.Gorres and his wide Datchess received a substantial donation from Pacquiao as well as another P50,000 from Pacquiao?s longtime friend and Filipino trainer Restituto ?Buboy?
